This is the warmest jacket I’ve ever owned but I haven’t had a chance to wear it in Oslo. The temperatures haven’t dropped low enough to warrant it.
Reddit users widely regard this jacket as a rare gem in Arc'teryx’s history. Among enthusiasts, the Thorsen Parka is celebrated as a standout example of the brand’s peak craftsmanship and technical design, often referred to as a “golden goose” of their production. Collectors and outdoor gear aficionados highlight its exceptional warmth, premium materials, and rarity since its discontinuation, making it a highly sought-after piece that is seldom found in like-new condition.
This was Arc'teryx's warmest waterproof down parka. It carries 296 g of 750 fill-power European goose down in a medium - for scale, Arc'teryx's current Therme Down Parka runs about 120 g and the Camosun about 105 g, so this holds roughly two and a half times the down of the parka that replaced it. Whole jacket weighs about 805 g.
The shell is 2L Gore-Tex over a 90D face fabric, so it is made for wet cold rather than dry cold alone. Cut below the thigh, a few inches above the knee. A down-insulated neck rib and stretch-woven cuff gaskets seal drafts out, and the adjustable hood is taken from their climbing and ski shells. Four pockets - two handwarmer, one exterior chest, one interior chest.
Arc'teryx does not publish temperature ratings for its parkas. Independent testing by OutdoorCrunch puts the Thorsen at about -15F / -26C.
