Beskrivelse av varen
Tilstand: Pent brukt - I god stand
Gammel Art Deco lampe kjøpt hos antikvitetsbutikk i København for 22 år siden.
Hentes i Oslo.
Dette sier KI om lampen og potensiell opprinnelse og verdi:
Style and period
This is a classic late Art Deco / early Functionalist chandelier, almost certainly made between roughly 1930 and 1940. The design language sits right at the transition between ornamental Art Deco (1925–1930) and the more streamlined Bauhaus-influenced Functionalism that followed.
The features that point to this dating:
The chromed (nickel-plated) brass frame with the tulip-shaped central body and the symmetrical, S-curved arms that flare outward and then sweep back down. This kind of geometric-yet-curvilinear silhouette is signature late-Deco.
The cream/ivory opaline glass globes ("opalin" or "opaline crème"). True hand-blown opaline of this slightly yellowed, warm tone is typical of the 1930s; later reproductions tend to be whiter and machine-made.
The four-light configuration (three arms plus a central drop) was a very common formula for dining-room and salon chandeliers of the period.
Likely origin
Without a maker's mark on the canopy or inside the cup (worth checking — sometimes there's a stamp under the ceiling rose, which is the chrome bowl in your last photo), the most probable origins are:
Czechoslovakia / Bohemia — this is the strongest candidate. Czech workshops dominated the European market for chrome-and-opaline chandeliers in the 1930s, often in a Functionalist idiom. The shape of your arms and the proportions of the globes are very typical of Czech production.
Germany or Austria — Bauhaus-adjacent makers produced very similar pieces; if it's German it would likely be late Bauhaus or "neue Sachlichkeit" style.
France or Belgium — possible but less likely; French Deco of this period tends toward more sculptural bronze and frosted (not opaline) glass.
Based on current market listings for very similar pieces, here's a realistic picture:
Dealer / specialist retail prices (1stDibs, Pamono, Skinflint, etc.)
Comparable Czech/Bohemian 1930s chrome-and-opaline four-globe chandeliers are listed roughly between $1,100 and $1,900 (≈ NOK 12,000–21,000). A few examples from current listings:
A Czechoslovak Art Deco nickel chandelier with four opaline globes: $1,319
An Art Deco brass and chrome chandelier with opaline glass, Czechoslovakia 1930s: ~$1,122
A more elaborate adjustable version: $1,882
Factors that affect your specific lamp
What pushes the value up: all four original opaline globes intact and matching, original chrome in decent condition, a maker's mark if you find one (Napako, IAS, or another known Czech firm can add 30–50%).
