Job Description:
The Hardware and Product Developer lead the design and development of hardware products from concept through production. This includes 3D mechanical design, electrical wiring diagrams, creating detailed product documentation, production drawings, and ensuring compliance with CAD standards. The role bridges engineering, operations, and production teams to deliver high-quality, manufacturable products.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
Create and refine 3D models and 2D production drawings using CAD tools (AutoCAD and Inventor). Ensure designs meet functional and technical requirements for manufacturing and assembly.
Create and refine wiring diagrams.
Create and refine GA drawings.
Ensure component choices are fit for purpose in terms of size, power, electrical requirements and certifications.
Documentation
Generate comprehensive product documentation, including assembly instructions, testing procedures, and operational guidelines.
Prepare template documents for standardisation across projects.
Prototyping & Testing
Oversee and participate in prototype assembly and testing, ensuring design integrity and performance.
Collaborate with Operations and Production teams for smooth transition from development to production.
Cross-Functional Support
Work closely with Procurement, Production, and Sales teams to resolve technical issues and support product lifecycle.
Provide training and technical guidance to internal teams.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure all designs comply with internal quality standards and industry best practices.
Maintain accurate records of design changes and revisions.
Supplier communication
Work with suppliers during prototyping and initial design
Address quality issues with suppliers. (RMA’s)
Manage product replacements and end-of-life
Required Qualifications
Relevant BSc or higher. Proven experience may compensate for lack of education.
Fluent in English written and spoken.
Experience with hardware and product development.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Inventor for 3D modelling and 2D drafting.
Ability to produce manufacturing-ready drawings with tolerances, material specifications, and assembly details.
Knowledge of stress and structural analysis for mechanical components.
Experience with low-voltage equipment is a strong plus.
Familiarity with mechanical design principles, BOM creation, and documentation standards.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for resolving interface issues and improving product reliability.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across departments.
