Application Developer in NBIM!
Do you want to work with the software that powers investment operations for one of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds? If you thrive on configuring critical systems, creating robust APIs, and solving complex technical challenges that directly enable portfolio management and trading, this could be your opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and global finance.
The role
As an Application Developer in SysCore Development, you'll build and maintain code in NBIM's core systems and internal applications. You'll work with the full technical stack to configure core trading and portfolio systems, design dependable integrations that connect critical financial platforms, and build scalable REST APIs enabling teams across NBIM to leverage investment and execution data. You'll leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.
This is a strategic development role where you'll make decisions about what to build versus what to wait for in vendor roadmaps. You'll review code contributions to prevent technical debt accumulation while driving modernization initiatives using Python, cloud-native approaches, and AI automation wherever possible. Your work directly enables portfolio management, trading operations, and valuation processes across a globally distributed organization. The team operates with an agile, sprint-focused approach emphasizing iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
What you will do
Configure and optimize integration components across core systems
Develop database procedures supporting critical workflows
Build REST APIs enabling data access across the organization
Leverage AI tools to accelerate development and improve quality
Review code contributions to maintain code quality standards
Debug performance issues and optimize database queries
Partner with Product Owners on feasibility and technical guidance
Contribute to build vs. buy decisions and technology planning
Collaborate on deployment automation and CI/CD improvements
Document solutions and share knowledge with the team
What you need
XSLT knowledge for transformation logic
REST API development experience
Strong SQL skills for optimization and procedures
Experience with AI and agentic flows is a plus
Code review and constructive feedback skills
Testing experience across unit, integration, and automation
Git version control and collaborative workflows
Agile development experience
Experience working with cloud based applications
Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
Desired qualifications
Experience with financial systems is a plus but not a requirement
AI-assisted development tools familiarity
Cloud certifications are a plus
Understanding of trading operations, order management, or portfolio management systems
0-3 years relevant experience
Who you are
You're a pragmatic developer who enjoys balancing today's needs with building for tomorrow. You think strategically about when to build custom solutions versus leveraging vendor capabilities, and you're not afraid to share your perspective with the team.
You care about code quality—writing clean, testable, well-documented code matters to you because you know others will work with it. You're genuinely collaborative, finding satisfaction in sharing knowledge and learning from your colleagues. When problems arise, you dig deep to understand the root causes, and you bring others along on that journey of discovery.
