The Marine Operations section is seeking a talented Engineer to join our Høvik team and support the emerging energy future, which will see renewables take a greater share of the energy mix and decarbonization becomes a major focus. 

Department Structures in service area Offshore Infrastructure & Technology in business area Energy Systems in DNV is a leading competence center within assessments of loadbearing structures, serving the offshore industry across ocean-based sectors. A total work force of 150 subject matter experts (100 in Norway and 50 in Germany) are working in unique teams of world leading experts with different aspects of structural integrity related matters for load bearing structures such as fixed and floating wind turbines, solar plants, oil and gas structures, fish farms and floating bridges.

Department Structures is responsible for technical advisory and verification services for assessments of load bearing structures in Region Northern Europe, but also supports other regions and business areas in DNV, such as Offshore Class and Renewables Certification, and work closely with business area Digital Solutions in developing next generation software and framework for analyses and design of loadbearing structures. The department is at the forefront of technology and leads the offshore industry forward through among others leading Joint Industry Projects and developing rules and guidelines.

We are looking for candidates who have ambitions to grow as specialists within marine operations and marine warranty services, and in addition want to develop a broader and more holistic understanding of our business and loadbearing structures in general. The candidate will be given excellent opportunity to grow expertise through project work and technology and service development, solving complex matters for the offshore industry in multidisciplinary project teams. Our projects cover all sides of structural integrity related matters from assessments of environmental loads, foundations and mooring systems, structural behaviour, functionality and capacity of structures, asset integrity management, lifetime extension to marine operations during transport, installation and decommissioning of structures.

You will have opportunity to challenge yourself and grow as you work on pioneering projects onshore and offshore alongside regular operations. You will be part of a cross–functional team of highly skilled colleagues working in close partnership with other parts of DNV in multidisciplinary projects.

The section is in the Structures department of DNV Energy Systems, Northern Europe with teams in Hamburg, Germany and Høvik, Norway. The work location is Høvik, but you will experience a worldwide project arena.   

Typical services executed in the section are:

  • Marine Warranty Survey services
  • Review and approval of towing operations, barge and vessel transports, lifting and load-out operations, offshore- and subsea installations, rig moves, mooring, and removal in the offshore renewable energy sector, oil and gas sector and offshore fish farming industry
  • Verification of marine operations against DNV standards:
  • structural and operation design
  • simulations and analysis
  • Location approval and mooring analysis
  • Technical advisory and consultancy
  • Technology Qualification
  • Simulation and analysis of marine operations

Work tasks will include:

  • Analysis of marine operations
  • Perform design verification and procedure review, i.e. installation and assembly methods, load-out, sea transportation (wet tow, barge and heavy transport vessel), lifting and heavy lift operations inshore and offshore, load transfer operations
  • Review conceptual and detail design of temporary structures, i.e. grillage & sea-fastening, lift points, guides & bumpers
  • Analysis and verification of marine operations and safety systems of ships and offshore installations
  • Project management of marine assurance from early concept to project conclusion
  • Prepare and attend onshore and offshore marine warranty and verification surveys
  • Support further development of DNV Standards and Recommended Practices

In general, subject matter experts work both as project team members and project managers and contribute with technology and service development, customer interaction and tendering work dependent on seniority and demand. Normally, a chargeability between 70% and 90% can be expected after onboarding dependent on involvement in non-chargeable activity such as tendering work and technology and service development.

Position qualifications:

  • Educated to at least master’s degree level or equivalent
  • Degree that showcases a high level of suitable knowledge, e.g. Marine Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nautical Science
  • Previous professional experience in similar activities, preferably with offshore experience
  • Knowledge within software and software development is an advantage
  • Sound knowledge of the ocean-based industry and relevant markets & sectors
  • Positive team player
  • Self-motivated and result oriented with ability to meet deadlines
  • Commercial mindset and customer orientation
  • Strong listening and communication skills
  • Good written and oral language skills within English and Norwegian (Scandinavian language)
