Okay, she's back to watching Downton Abbey, which means I can speak freely.
I'm looking to find a new place for this antique piano I impluse acquired on Finn about six years ago. We're looking to reorganise the flat to make better use of the space we have, and the Duchess is, alas, not part of the reshuffle. She's a beauty and the result of true craftsmanship from the late 1800s (1898 to be exact!), and with proper care and attention I'm sure she'll be a wonderful instrument for active use. Her strings sound wonderfully haunting even without proper tuning. She also comes with what I do believe is the original stool, which is pretty neat!
That being said, there are some issues with the old girl:
- The centre bottom panel right above the pedals is a bit warped and doesn't sit well;
- She's in need of tuning and serious maintenance if you want to use her for actual play. Right now, she's in no state for that. Don't tell her I said that, though. She's sensitive about it;
- A few small pieces have fallen off, both before we got her and after we moved her. Such is the way and we do still have them. Just accent panels and such, nothing major.
That's the long and short of it. She's free to pick up (though please tell her you paid a fortune if she asks)! I would advise, though, you bring enough able hands and/or suitable equipment to carry something that weighs about as much as a cow, and a trailer or van to transport her in. She's got that solid bulk about her.
