Into that extraordinary moment, the Monsters of Rock festival arrived in Moscow with a lineup unthinkable just years earlier. Headlining, in front of a crowd estimated at well over one million people, was Metallica.
One million people. Not an arena. Not a festival field. An ocean of humanity experiencing raw, uncompromising Western rock and roll that had been forbidden and suppressed for decades. For many in that crowd it was not just a concert. It was the first breath of something new.
The Black Album was barely three weeks old. Metallica were at the absolute peak of their power — and they met the moment with everything they had. This CD is that document.
