The Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 was a desktop processor with 2 cores, launched in January 2008. It is part of the Core 2 Duo lineup, using the Wolfdale architecture with Socket 775. Core 2 Duo E8200 has 6 MB of L2 cache and operates at 2.667 GHz. Intel is making the Core 2 Duo E8200 on a 45 nm production node using 410 million transistors. The multiplier is locked on Core 2 Duo E8200, which limits its overclocking potential.
With a TDP of 65 W, the Core 2 Duo E8200 consumes typical power levels for a modern PC. Intel's processor supports DDR1, DDR2 and DDR3 memory with a dual-channel interface. For communication with other components in the computer, Core 2 Duo E8200 uses a PCI-Express Gen 2 connection. Although the processor doesn't come with integrated graphics, certain motherboards with compatible chipsets can provide this capability.
The ASUS P5Q Turbo is a solid mid-range ATX motherboard from 2009, built around the Intel P45 chipset and designed for the LGA 775 socket. It supports Intel Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Extreme, Pentium Dual-Core, and Celeron processors with front-side bus speeds up to 1600 MHz. It handles up to 16 GB of DDR2 memory (at speeds like 667–1333 MHz, with some overclocked support to 1600+ MHz), features a capable 8-phase power design (often marketed as "Xtreme Phase" in the Turbo series), PCIe 2.0 graphics slots, Gigabit LAN, 8-channel HD audio, multiple SATA II ports, eSATA, FireWire, and legacy connections like IDE and serial. It also includes ASUS-exclusive features like TurboV for easy software-based overclocking, Express Gate for quick mini-OS access, and EPU for power saving.
In its era, the P5Q Turbo earned praise for delivering excellent overclocking headroom on a budget-friendly P45 platform—many users pushed Core 2 CPUs well beyond stock speeds (e.g., E8400 or Q9550 to 4 GHz+) with good stability and reasonable temperatures thanks to the efficient power delivery. It offered strong value compared to higher-end X48 boards, with reliable performance in gaming and everyday tasks of the late 2000s. Build quality was typical of ASUS at the time: solid capacitors, good layout, and useful bundled utilities, though the feature set was more mainstream than premium (no fancy RAID extras or extreme VRM cooling like the Deluxe models).
Today, as a retro piece (over 15 years old), it's mainly interesting for vintage builds, restoration projects, or collectors running legacy Core 2 systems. It remains stable and capable for light modern retro-gaming or basic tasks with compatible hardware, but lacks any support for newer technologies (no DDR3/4, no NVMe without hacks, limited PCIe bandwidth). Overall, it was a dependable, overclock-friendly workhorse back then—highly recommended in its prime for price-to-performance, but now purely nostalgic.
