Tilstand: Pent brukt - I god stand
I am selling a beautiful, antique secretary desk with a cabinet top (Skatoll med overskap), dated 1816 and 1846. This is a genuine piece of Norwegian cultural history, originating from the Toten/Raufoss region.
While modern furniture comes and goes, this piece has stood the test of time for nearly 180 years. It was likely crafted as a prestigious wedding gift for a farm couple, marked with their initials (P.L.S. and H.N.S.Ø) and the year of their union. The two dates can be either because it was regifted to the next generation or because it commemorates a birth or other event.
Why this piece is special:
We think it has been in our family since approximately 1930. We recently got this from my mother-in-law. We think it may have been restored around the time of the acquisition, and again approximately 1970-1980, when my mother-in-law inherited it. We cannot know whether this was done professionally, and have therefore put the price low.
Authentic Craftsmanship: Hand-painted in the traditional style of the mid-19th century. It features beautiful "faux-grain" painting (ådring) on the doors and delicate floral Rosemaling details typical of the Toten district.
Functional Home Office: The middle section folds down to reveal a writing desk with small compartments. It serves perfectly as a unique, hidden "home office" for a laptop, which can be closed away when work is done.
Massive Storage: Deep drawers and a spacious upper cabinet provide ample storage.
Condition: The piece is solid and in good vintage condition with a lovely patina that only centuries of use can create.
This is a rare opportunity to own a quality "bondeantikvitet" at a very reasonable price. Similar pieces are often found at the Norwegian Folk Museum, but this one can be yours.

W: 111cm.
Depth bottom part: Depth 52,5cm. Handles builds up to 2,5cm in addition.
Depth top part: 27cm + ca 1,5cm for doors.
