BMW R 71

Here is a unique opportunity to purchase a genuine WW2 era 1940 BMW R71 with a 1949/50 Steib S350 side car. The motorcycle and the side car is restored as close to original as possible and is painted in RAL6009 Polizeigrün/Tannengrün which was a paint color within the BMW paint chart and used by the Hamburg police according to the source below.

This particular R71 is of the last manufacture series and was upon restoration, exceptionally complete with all original mechanical and body parts and is of so-called "triple matching number", meaning that the frame, engine block and the cylinders has the same number.
Cylinders on these bikes was often replaced during its use, so having the cylinders that left with the bike from the factory is quite unique. I bought the bike and the side-car in 2014 in a sad condition and performed restoration over a period of three years (completed in 2017). Some of the enclosed photos illustrate the state of the bike prior to restoration.
A large number of pictures of the complete restoration along with other relevant documentation follows the bike.

Most likely, the bike came to Norway with the Wehrmacht "visitors", probably during the first part of the Wehrmacht invasion of Norway. The bike  holds a post-war Norwegian title since 1950. Title of Trondheim municipality.
The title card from the earliest Norwegian registration is among the documentation that follow the purchase. There, it is listed a few names of owners during the 50. to 70. It is up to new owner to dig further into the history of the bike if desired.

During the restoration it was necessary to replace parts that was beyond saving, and therefor a necessity of aftermarket parts is fitted to the bike. The mechanical parts of the engine, such as cylinders, valves and crank shaft is restored by Stigs Motormekaniska I Axvall Sweden, A new cam shaft an camshaft gears are fitted (old ones not salvageable). New camshaft slide bearings are made and fitted. Gear train has all new bearing (either bought or made) and other necessary parts replaced or repaired. Broken aluminium parts has either been welded, then machined or made new.
spokes has been replased and new stainless steel  spokes from Oldtimer on Tour (speichen-spokes.de) of the type single-butted spokes.

The dynamo got new brushes and fitted with an integrated regulator for BMZ (Bayerische Magnetzünder). the original Electric-mechanic regulator follows the purchase.

Aftermarket carburetors of "Graetzin replica" is fitted and works perfectly. the engine runs smooth and good and have been in frequent use the past years and the bike has been used for several trips around southern Norway (see photos).

The Steib S350 is restored where all damaged and corroded panels has been replaced and new parts has been bough of Ideal Seitenwagen in Berlin, which delivers high quality parts for these sidecars.

NOK is the gouverning and preferred  currency in this deal.

A buyer should understand that even though the bike is restored recent years, the bike is 85 years old and have to be treated as such. oil droplets should be expected. No guarantee is given and a potential buyer must undertstand that one buy a hobby or a display object.
