Volkswagen Vento

Hi, Vento.

I’m here to tell the world about you — the little, special Volkswagen that became such a big part of my life.

You were my first car, and with first cars comes a kind of magic that never really leaves. You were my little camping companion. You carried firewood, wet swimsuits, and tired friends without complaint. You gave me freedom. This is a goodbye letter to honor our  journey.

It all started with an idea — to drive from Estonia to Italy. Then came an offer from a mechanic and my brother: the chance to take you on. 

You were curious, ready to taste the diesels of Europe, to climb mountain passes and whoosh through over 3,000 kilometers- with just one tiny hiccup.

Don’t let your compact size fool anyone; your trunk has carried more than anyone would expect — in both weight and memories.

Contrary to what the pessimists — cleverly disguised as realists — predicted about roadside stress, panic stops, and nightmare mechanics, you turned out to be sturdy and reliable.  

You started without hesitation 98 times out of 100 — winter or summer. For a romantic like me, summer spent being faithfully carried through golden fields with wind in my hair, lunches made in the trunk kitchen, was bliss you gifted me. You did very well to announce our arrival, and I always felt special with my hands on your steering wheel.

You're a simple car. They won’t find interiors like yours anymore — full of character and a little nostalgia. 

Being behind your wheel felt like traveling in time, cheesy as that may sound — back to something simpler, slower, and somehow more real. 

You dried my laundry at festivals, gave me a cozy shuttle home after long nights out, and sparked compliments from curious boys about just how cool you were.

Driving you always brought me back to the moment — grounding me in the now.

Your battery is from 2023. Your winter tires have been through three seasons. Of the summer tires, two are new from last year, and two are older — those aren’t included in the offer, but I’m open to talking about it. Your sunroof needs a new mechanism.

You passed your yearly Check 30.10.24, and got a partial paint job in 2023. Your trunk door could use a little attention.

What I wish for you now is a curious soul — someone whose hands itch for a journey of their own. Someone who will grow with you, shape you, and transform you into the shiny, extraordinary friend you truly are.
