• 1970 Buick GS Stage1 Convertible for sale!

This is a rare opportunity to own one of only 232 Buick GS Stage 1 convertibles produced in 1970, and one of just 164 equipped with an automatic transmission.

Vehicle History & Condition:  Imported to Norway in 1988.  Underwent a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration in the early 1990s.  Originally Diplomat Blue, a previous owner in the USA changed the exterior color to Regal Black and replaced the white convertible top with a black one. Both Regal Black paint and black tops were correct factory options for the 1970 Buick GS.  The car was repainted Regal Black again during the restoration by the first owner in Norway.  

Approximately 8-9 years ago, the second Norwegian owner installed a new black convertible top and a new black interior, both of which remain in like-new condition.  Despite the restoration being older, the car presents in excellent condition, free from rust and dents.  

Mechanical Details:  Transmission: Equipped with an original TH400 Stage 1 automatic transmission. While it is a correct Stage 1 unit, it is not numbers-matching to this specific vehicle. The transmission is in good condition and functions excellently.  

Engine (Currently Installed): The car is currently powered by a standard 1970 455ci engine block fitted with correct Stage 1 heads, camshaft, and a 1971 Stage 1 carburetor. According to the vehicle's history, the original Stage 1 'SS' code block was damaged early in the car's life (circa 1970/71), and a replacement short block was supplied by Buick at that time.  

Recent Upgrades (Current Owner):  Petronix electronic distributor.  JET 750 cfm Stage 2 carburetor.  New 8x15-inch rims fitted with BF Goodrich tires.  New 2.5-inch exhaust system installed last year, providing a nice, aggressive sound.

Ownership:  I am the third owner in Norway, having acquired the car in 2019.

Optional Engine (Available Separately with Car Purchase):  A correct 1970 Stage 1 'SS' code short block is available for purchase with the car.  This block was sourced from Dave Knutsen in the USA, reportedly originating from a 1970 GSX Stage 1 he previously owned.  Mr. Knutsen had the 'SS' block professionally rebuilt at a machine shop using original parts. Full specifications, parts numbers, and documentation for this build are available.  

Note: This newly rebuilt Stage 1 engine is not currently installed in the vehicle.  

Also available is a set of correct 1970 heads (correct part number) with standard-sized valves (not the larger Stage 1 valve size).  

Verification:  The chassis number (VIN) has been verified by the Sloan Museum / Buick Registry in the USA as an authentic 1970 Buick GS Stage 1 convertible. The car comes with a certificate and a copy of the Build Sheet from the Sloan Museum archives.
