Beskrivelse
Possibly the coolest bike in town?
I´ve owned vintage motorcycles for most of my life. Particularly, old boxers for over 15 years. This bike is a great example. However, because I currently have no access to a workshop... I have come to accept that it is not the right time to own it. And when I have a workshop back... I´d be looking for exactly the same bike :) Owning the bike is quite cheap! Classic insurance costs around 1000kr per year, and includes road tax.
If you know these BMWs, you will quickly come to see that it´s a very special one. If you don´t know these bikes, and if you are not a keen and experienced motorcycle home-mechanic... then I prefer that you do not buy it, unless you are prepared to see this as a big learning journey :)
The modifications done to the bike include special cap to where the air filter used to be. External air filters to carbs, and low-hanging battery (under frame)... as well as Kawasaki H2 tank and tail, and custom headlight, speedo unit. Side extra light, and custom back lights. No turn signal lights... but I´m used to hand signals.
These older machines need regular care. In my own ownership of this bike during the last 1,5 years I have:
-replaced air filters
-Changed the back tyre
-Did a full oil change and precise carburettor balancing (done by BMW Alnabru)
-Replaced front brake piston
-Replaced RT lead and spark plugs
-New light units to number plate
-Replaced the air intake pipe (RH side)
-New Battery
-New fuel tap/in-tank filter
-New fuel hoses
What is wrong with the bike?
The bike is in lovely working condition. It has been in dry storage these last 2 winters. I only use it on sunny days, and it has seen zero use during the winter. On one of the carburettors, there is sometimes an over-fill such that it leaks out petrol. This is typically caused by some grit/dirt in the fuel blocking the over-fill valve in the float. I hope the new filter will solve the problem. Alternatively, it may need a new carburettor needle... but that is not very difficult. I have ridden the bike once since winter, and this did not happen... no leaks... and it tends to happen only occasionally.
Otherwise... the suspension is probably too hard for my liking so if I were keeping it, this is something I would eventually address. I would change the back shocks, and recondition the front forks. For nipping around town, and taking it out on the odd blast in the Oslo area I have not been so bothered about the lack of comfort... it´s been fantastic.
There you go.. I welcome any questions etc.
Hope it finds a kind owner... I do love this bike.
