About the position

NHH in Bergen, Norway, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in Financial Accounting at the Department of Accounting, Auditing and Law. The Department has an active research environment and a broad international research network in Financial Accounting and Auditing. According to the BYU Accounting Research Rankings (2021), NHH is ranked highest among the Nordic business schools in accounting research (NHH’s Accounting Research Ranking at byuaccounting.net).

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate high research potential and have a publication record. The candidate’s PhD degree should concentrate in accounting and be obtained from an internationally accredited institution within recent 10 years. Emphasis of the research area and methodology for this position will be on Financial Accounting and Auditing research using archival methods. In particular, research with a focus on bankruptcy prediction, accounting fraud and/or using machine learning/AI in research will be preferred. Qualified candidates must have a publication record in journals at ABS level 3 or above and an active research program with the demonstrated ability or clear potential to be published in highly ranked academic journals (such as ABS level 4* or 4 journals). International research experience and collaboration are essential.

In addition to research activities, the position involves teaching, supervision, and some administrative work. Candidates should have teaching and master thesis supervising experience and formal pedagogical training and can demonstrate good teaching skills and course administration. Contributions to research-related services will also be taken into account.

Candidates will be evaluated based on their documented professional competence overall, including their past academic record, current work in process, evidence of teaching quality, and contributions to the research institute and community. Candidates that cannot document at least 200 hours of pedagogical coursework when hired, are offered the NHH programme on basic pedagogical competence and must complete this program within two years.

At NHH we value effective communication and expect our permanent faculty to have good language skills in both Norwegian and English. Norwegian will normally be the language of administration and teaching, and the appointee is expected to master Norwegian at B1 level (The Common European Framework) within three years of appointment. NHH offers courses in Norwegian for employees who may not initially have Norwegian or Scandinavian language proficiency.

Start date for the position will be agreed upon with the candidate.

Salary is negotiable according to the Norwegian State Salary Scale for Associate Professor. External research grants and teaching in executive programs offer opportunities for supplementing this salary.
