About the position

HUNT Cloud specializes in scientific cloud computing for sensitive data. We are seeking a System operator to join our team in Trondheim. Office location in Levanger is possible. This is a 100 % permanent position with immediate start.

What you will do

You will have an important role in our cloud operations, support services and the continous improvement of our cloud services.

Example of tasks:

  • Operations of hardware and cloud orchestration in our data centers
  • Operations of cloud services and digital laboratories for our scientists
  • Operations of tape archives
  • User support, training and optimization of services for scientific projects
  • Continuous development of services through code
  • Active contributor in setting up new cloud installations, data rooms and data center
  • Work inside requirements from ISO/IEC 9001, ISO/IEC 27701 and ISO/IEC 27701, including contributions in our internal and external audit programs

We don’t expect you to know everything, although you should be eager to learn and enjoy searching for solutions to challenges few have encountered before.


Required qualifications
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in IT from University or College. Relevant experience can compensate for the educational requirement
  • Knowledge of and experience with Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with OpenStack and Ceph
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, which is the working language of the team

Preferred selection criteria

We have a diverse set of tasks. Knowledge of and experience with one or more of the following will
be emphasized:

  • Knowledge of and experience with user support and user training, including writing of user documentation and/or video guidance for end-users
  • Knowledge of and experience with system operations, such as installation and deployment of hardware and tape services
  • Knowledge of and experience with operating systems, code and software such as Ubuntu, Python, Ansible, Juju and Docker
  • Knowledge of and experience with ISO standards, such as ISO/IEC 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001, and technical audits

Salary and conditions

In the position of Head Engineer code 1087 you will be remunerated according to qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria's in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and available to HUNT Cloud on a daily basis.
