The project

A postdoctoral research position at the Department of Medical Biology with the Immunology Research group. The postdoctoral researcher will also work closely with the Thrombosis Research group at the Department of Clinical Medicine at UiT.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common term (thrombosis and embolism) for blood clots in the deep veins and pulmonary arteries. The disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The incidence of VTE is increasing with age, with a life-time risk of nearly 10%. VTE has long been considered a condition of blood hypercoagulability with limited consideration for the role of intravascular cells (e.g., endothelial cells, monocytes and platelets) in its pathogenesis. The aim of this project is to uncover new immune-related mechanisms of VTE by studying how pathophysiological stimuli associated with VTE affect these cells and their role in thromboinflammation.
