The position is within the nephrology department under the division of medicine, Østfold Hospital. The clinic is responsible for diagnosing and treating patients within nine specialty areas. There is high activity in our work environment, with 60,000 outpatient consultations and 17,000 planned admissions per year. The division has a total of 160 beds, in addition to intermediate and intensive care beds available.
 
The nephrology department offers diverse tasks in a nearly new hospital. The department has a ward with 9 beds and a dialysis unit with 37 places, distributed among a main dialysis unit in Østfold Hospital with 20 places and two satellite units, one with 11 places and the other unit with 6 places. The nephrology outpatient clinic, adjacent to the dialysis unit, handles approximately 4000 consultations per year. Our dialysis activity is among the highest in the country, with over 15,000 treatments per year. We have a strong focus on home treatment, both in hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Currently, we have 31 patients on peritoneal dialysis and 8 patients on home hemodialysis. There is a dedicated team of nurses and a responsible physician for home hemodialysis. We plan to establish a self-dialysis unit at Østfold Hospital. Additionally, we have a nurse-led outpatient clinic that works with peritoneal dialysis, hypertension, recipient, and donor evaluations. We employ 4 nurses and 3 transplant coordinators in combination positions with the dialysis department. There is close collaboration among all groups.
 
We are committed to continuous improvement, and input from all staff members is crucial. The lines between management and clinical practice are very short, allowing for faster changes than in many other hospitals.
 
The nephrology department has its own specialized on-call schedule for physicians.
 
We aim to increase our focus on research, and physicians with scientific expertise/PhD will receive great support from our enthusiastic research department. We have a nephrology consultant with a 20% research position.
 
Physicians without approved specialization but with documented competence in nephrology may be considered.
 
The department has a pleasant and dedicated professional environment and cooperates well with the nursing staff.
 

Qualifications

• Norwegian medical license
• Specialist certification in nephrology
• Particularly relevant experience/interest in the field may compensate for the requirement for formal specialist certification
• Proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is required
