About the job

The Adjunct Professor/Adjunct Associate Professor position has a full-time equivalence of 20% and has a fixed term of up to 3 years with the possibility of employment for further periods. The Department of Geoscience and Petroleum (IGP) seeks a bedrock Geologist with experience in U-Pb geochronology for a 20% position as Adjunct Professor or Adjunct Associate Professor.

Your immediate leader is Head of the Department 


Responsibilities

 

  • The successful applicant will be responsible for the course TGB 4112 Norges Geologi og Georessurser (Norway´s Geology and Georesources) from January 2024
  • The applicant will be responsible for administrating the course, for a number of lectures in the course curriculum and for developing the course content towards its future format. The teaching language is Norwegian.
  • The applicant will be responsible for the supervision of Master- and PhD-students in bedrock geology and geochronology

Required selection criteria
  • The successful applicant will have extensive experience with a range of geochronological techniques and their application in regional geology studies and mineral resources exploration. These will include well-proven methodologies such as U-Pb (Zr) dating, but also other techniques based on the U-Pb system, using minerals such as Monazite, titanite and garnet.
  • Experience with the development of relatively low-temperature and experimental geochronological techniques such as U-Pb calcite dating will be considered important.
  • The applicant will be experienced in the use of geochronological results in tectono-metamorphic, tectono-magmatic and tectono-sedimentary (provenance) contexts.
  • Due to the teaching obligations that follow the position, extensive knowledge of the Precambrian and Caledonian regional geology of Norway will be required.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with the basement geology of the Norwegian continental shelf will be required.
  • The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills and significant teaching experience, including the supervision and/or co-supervision of Master- and PhD students.
  • Due to the teaching obligations that follow the position, the successful applicant will be able to teach in Norwegian.

Adjunct Professor:

The position of Professor within Geochronology and Regional Geology requires that you meet the criteria in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts section 1-2.  

  • your academic work must be essentially within Geochronology and Regional Geology    

In addition to formal qualifications in teaching at university level, you must document 

  • development in teaching and counselling of students over time 
  • extensive experience with supervision preferably at the master / PhD level 
  • participation in the development of educational quality in a work environment 

Adjunct Associate Professor:

The position of Assistant Professor within Geochronology and Regional Geology requires that you meet the criteria in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts section 1-4.  

  • Your PhD, or academic work of the same scope and quality, must be within Geochronology and Regional Geology

For both positions:

You must document relevant basic competence for teaching and supervision at university/higher education-level, ref. Regulations. If this cannot be documented, you are required to complete an approved course in university teaching (1 module = 20t) within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses.   


Preferred selection criteria
  • Applicants with teaching experience from higher education will be preferred 
  • The successful applicant should have experience with digital mapping and analysis tools relevant for the position and an interest in using these in teaching and supervision

Salary and conditions

In a position as Adjunct Professor (code 1013) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 160 000 to NOK 200 000 per year, corresponding with a 20% position, depending on qualifications and seniority.

In a position as Adjunct Associate Professor (code 1011) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 140 000 to NOK 180 000 per year, corresponding with a 20% position, depending on qualifications and seniority.

If you are eligible for membership at the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, 2% of your salary will be deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

  • A description of the scientific/artistic works you consider most relevant, which you particularly wish to be factored into the assessment
  • A list of your previous works, with details on where they have been published
  • A research plan
  • Details of projects for which you have served as project manager, including information on financing, duration, and scope
  • Names and contact information for three relevant referees

You are encouraged to use the Universities Norway’s NOR-CAM toolbox as a guide for  documentation of your competence.

Joint work will also be considered. If it is difficult to identify your specific input to a joint project, you must include evidence of your contributions.

In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal and interpersonal qualities. Motivation, ambitions, and potential will also count in the assessment of the candidates.

We will also pay attention to research leadership and participation in research projects. Your scientific work from the last five years will be given the most weight.
