BISS Sentrum has a vacancy for a Learning Support Teacher / Spesialpedagog to join a specialised team working with students who have extra challenges in their everyday school life. The teacher must be fluent in English and French to enable mother tongue support for these students. A significant part of this role is working with challenging behaviour and some of the students have differentiated timetables, including outdoor education and lessons.
The position is 100% and temporary, until 31st October 2024 and is available from 1st November 2023, or by arrangement with the successful candidate.
Qualifications
- Relevant NOKUT approved teaching qualifications, with a minimum of Masters level education in a field relevant to the position
- Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) certification is preferable, but we will expect and support the successful candidate to undertake this training if they do not already have it.
- Outdoor Education qualifications and/or experience
- Fluent English and French (minimum B2)
Skills
- Promote students' learning and personal development so that they experience the most of the educational opportunities open to them.
- Motivate and encourage the students with engaging and differentiated teaching
- Plan, deliver and manage opportunities for individual student learning outside the classroom, including in outdoor settings
- Give the students security and help during their learning journey
- Support students' social, emotional and behavioural needs
- Adapt and teach the learning designed by the class teacher to individual or small group settings
- Demonstrate excellent behaviour management skills
Experience
- A significant part of this role is working with challenging behaviour, so experience in working with young adults or students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties is important.
- Experience working with complex behaviours and mental health problems
- Experience in working in an international environment, with an understanding of cultural differences and considerations
- Experience of taking learning outside the classroom, and with outdoor activities and sports
