Adjunct associate professor in Data Science

About the position

A position as adjunct associate professor in Data Science is available immediately at the Department of Data Science at the Faculty of Science and Technology (REALTEK). The position as adjunct associate professor within data science is 20% (fixed term) and limited to two years with a possibility for an extension.

At REALTEK, you will meet highly motivated students and a vibrant research environment in applied data science with activities in resource-efficient machine learning, few-shot learning, semantic technologies and scientific computing. Application areas range from biomedical imaging via multiscale and multiphysics modeling and computational neuroscience to decision support, process control, natural disasters, robotics and business analytics. We also train engineers across a wide range of fields and high school teachers.

We are looking for a candidate to develop and teach courses which introduce and expose students to the mathematical foundations of techniques that are fundamental to data science and engineering students.

We also expect you to share your expertise with researchers in data science and related fields to enhance existing research as well as develop new research activities. Supervision of MSc and PhD candidates will be an important part of the position.

Main tasks

  • Teach and evolve courses in machine learning or optimization
  • Supervise master and doctoral students

Competence

Required academic qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field, such as data science, informatics, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or engineering.
  • Solid research achievements documented through peer-reviewed publications in international journals or conference proceedings
  • The ability and desire to teach.

Desired academic qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in academia, preferably formal training in university pedagogics
  • Ability and interest in strengthening the theoretical understanding of methods introduced in the data science education program
  • Experience in one or more of the following: optimization methods in machine learning, scientific machine learning, machine learning for model reduction, inverse problems in data science
  • Teaching experience in data science or related topics
  • Successful acquisition and management of external funding

Required language skills:

  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Fluency in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish is an advantage

Required personal skills:

  • Ability to engage students and colleagues

Personal suitability for the position will be emphasized. It is an advantage if you can start in the position before the end of 2024.

Remuneration and further information

The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1011 Associate Professor, salary grade 68-80 (NOK 667 700- 870 900), depending on qualifications. Seniority Promotion in position.
