We are hiring a new Programme Director.

Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) is Europe's leading organization in protecting the world's rainforests with projects and partners in all three rainforest regions. We are now looking for a director to lead our Programmes Department of country teams running our rainforest programmes in the Amazon, Africa, and Asia/ Oceania.

The next few years will be crucial for the work to protect tropical rainforest, serving as a key part of the global effort to combat the nature and climate crisis. This role will place you right in the middle of the action and offer a unique opportunity to be part of the solution.

As Programme Director, you will, together with country team leaders, develop our country portfolios with indigenous and civil society partners and alliances towards achieving our goal: That the world's large, contiguous rainforests are sustainably managed, and the rights of Indigenous peoples and local communities respected.

The Programme Director reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the Senior Management team. Based in the organisation’s headquarters in Oslo, the Programme Director will travel regularly, both to rainforest countries and to international meetings. We grow to around 100 colleagues in Norway and abroad, so you will find yourself surrounded by engaged, knowledgeable and committed colleagues determined to make a difference.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead consistent, results-driven and effective programme implementation.
  • Contextualize and develop our country portfolios while ensuring coherence across geographies and alignment with RFN advocacy internationally.
  • Map, scope and lead alliances in a selection of rainforest countries.
  • Ensure accountability in all aspects of RFN’s international work and nurture a motivating, inclusive and well-balanced work environment in the Programmes Department.
  • Manage processes and resources in the Programmes Department, including human resources abroad.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to engage with and support a diverse and purpose-driven group of colleagues.
  • Higher education desirable, relevant experience also highly valued.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and preferably Norwegian, with Spanish, Portuguese, Bahasa, or French being an asset.
  • Leadership and line-management talent and experience
  • Strategic engagement experience and representational skills towards a wide range of stakeholders and ability to build relations and organisational positioning.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good knowledge of central stakeholders, policies and processes within international environmental management and protection
  • Self-driven, solutions- & results oriented and able to provide strategic direction.

We encourage you to apply, even though you don’t have all the qualifications or experience listed

What we offer:

  • An exciting and meaningful position within an organization dedicated to addressing the climate and nature crisis.
  • A work environment characterized by diversity, generosity, and humor.
  • Competitive salary following RFN's current compensation system, along with comprehensive insurance and pension benefits.
  • Newly renovated offices centrally located in Oslo.

Application deadline: 07. April 2024. Start date as soon as possible.
