Help us build a European market for CO2 transport and storage services 

Northern Lights is looking for a Senior Commercial Advisor in Norway who will lead negotiations with customers, land agreements and subsequently execute and operate the agreements according to the terms agreed. The role will be key to manage and influence stakeholders, build good and sustainable connections and relationships both internally and externally, support and integrate the delivery of Phase 1, 2 and support growth for Northern Lights. 

This position is located in Stavanger.

Your role 

As Senior Commercial Advisor in Northern Lights, you will support and participate in the business development team that is responsible for business development in a market that is in an embryotic stage, does political advocacy, develops commercial models, source funding, and develops trusted long term partner relations.  

The key to success will be to bring people, technology and business cases together in new, structured and innovative ways and work alongside the NL project execution team.  

Some of your tasks will be;

  • Lead negotiations with customers to enter into transport and storage agreements for Northern Lights CO2 transportation and storage services.
  • Follow through on the agreement and facilitate and support commercial operations  
  • Coordinate and closely collaborate internally to close the agreement with economic analysis, legal, technical, shipping and finance team.
  • Ensure technical, financial and integrity due diligence is performed timely.  
  • Secure mandates to negotiate and required internal approvals
  • Contribute to growth strategy for the NL JV next phases (commercial, technical and subsurface)
  • Follow-up of existing agreements such as Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)
  • Communicate and be a spoke person for NL business offerings (in cooperation with communication)

 

What we need from you?

The Northern Lights team operates with a "one team" and a strong new business mentality with support from shareholders both directly and through various Service Agreements. You will need to be willing and able to challenge conventional thinking and approaches to arrive at innovative, fit for purpose and effective business outcomes.

More specifically:

  • Experience in negotiating and delivering commercial agreements.
  • Business Development projects and/or commercial operations experience
  • Experienced and curious of the broader energy and industry landscape, the political system, regulatory and policy frameworks; curiosity about the broader value chain, incl. end users and industrial partners
  • Interested and able to develop business models and commercial structures in a low carbon/low margin context, background from natural gas or LNG agreements considered positive.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Ability to see the ‘big picture’ and support strategic analysis.
  • Experienced in working across full value chain and within complex environment.
  • Exposure to contract management, partnerships and joint venture dynamics is a strong plus
  • Proven ability to establish strong relationships internally and externally and to collaborate within an integrated, multifunctional, commercially oriented business development team

Qualifications

You have a university degree in business administration or engineering, 10-15 years of experience preferably within the energy sector and have an interest and passion toward new emerging CO2 technologies. You are external oriented, have a high level of personality integrity and ethical awareness. We need you to feel comfortable with working towards tight deadlines and having a high level of self-autonomy, initiative and drive.  

You have excellent skills in communication, both verbally and in writing, in Norwegian and in English.  

It should be expected to travel both domestically and internationally (occasionally).

Northern Lights JV is responsible for developing and operating CO2 transport and storage facilities, open to third parties, as part of Longship, the Norwegian Government’s full-scale carbon capture and storage project. When it starts operations in 2024, it will be the first ever cross-border, open-source CO2 transport and storage infrastructure network, shipping CO2 to an onshore receiving terminal at Øygarden on the Norwegian west coast, before being transported by pipeline for permanent storage in a reservoir 2,600 metres under the seabed.
