This Engineering Manager role is a fantastic opportunity to develop your leadership skills in a challenging but rewarding role, in Stockholm or Oslo, in a collaborative environment. Our marketplaces have unique and strong positions as market leaders, with FINN in Norway, Blocket in Sweden, DBA and Bilbasen in Denmark, and Tori and Oikotie in Finland. Together we make up Nordic Marketplaces in Schibsted, collectively connecting millions of buyers and sellers every month. The Engagement & Trust area is a group of teams (currently 7) in our new platform unit in Nordic Marketplaces. Trust and engagement are two of the most critical things to get right in an online marketplace and also an extremely interesting area where we will work a lot with using data to improve our understanding of the behaviour of our users, both good and bad. The areas’ mission will be to build a platform of tools and services that will help our verticals and marketplaces increase engagement with and between users, create a safe and trusted marketplace, prevent fraud and much more. We now start on the exciting journey to align the different solutions in our marketplaces and start building our new platform for engagement & trust!
As Engineering Manager, we expect you to be accountable for delivering on prioritised ambitions by empowering the team through mandate and trust and ensuring that the right mix of people and balance in competencies/capacity is represented in the team. Act as the leader of tech people in the team. Ensure they can build and own the services and products necessary with the right level of quality with both short and long-term needs in mind.
Skills & Requirements
Main responsibilities:
- People and Team leadership and management
- Accountable for the teams' technical solutions (If you build it, you run it)
- Ensure a good flow of deliveries
- Continuously improve teams' ability to evaluate and improve delivery through agile ways of working.
- Make sure that strategies, goals, priorities and expectations are well understood by the team.
- Building a high-trust environment in the team where ideas and insights are shared freely.
- Coaching and development of team members.
- Ensuring that the goal steering works and is successfully measured.
- Maintaining a balance between technical improvements and solving prioritised ambitions.
- Ensuring the right people are working on the right things and the work is organised in a way that ensures the team is efficient and motivated.
- Facilitate communication with other teams when needed, connecting the right people across functions.
- Celebrate wins and failures, and make sure that team members also have FUN!
Ownership and decision-making:
- Make decisions regarding recruitment, organisation and personnel within the team within the approved headcount.
- Align which processes, methods and tools the team will use.
- Make decisions about expenses related to training and team building.
- Administration tasks such as expenses, salary adjustments, vacation-, sick- or parental leave, recruitment and staffing.

My name is Gustav and I have worked at Blocket for 8 years. I started as a developer but drifted into Engineering Manager roles 4-5 years ago and now I will take on the challenge of being an Engineering Director for our Engagement & Trust area which currently has 7 teams.
Engagement & Trust isn’t just the name of the area I’m in, it is also the core of who I try to be as a leader. I trust my colleagues by default and always try to be transparent towards them, which also means that I depend on their trust and transparency in return. I believe building engagement in our teams is crucial and I myself am always curious about and engaged in what we are doing and why. Building the tools to create a safe marketplace is also a crucial part of our area and having teams, EMs and developers that feel safe in their work environment is of course a crucial part of my job.
