Andøya Space Group are looking for three positions within the safety area:

  • Safety Manager: Permanent position in Andøya Space, department of Quality, Safety & Security
  • Launch Safety Officer: Permanent position in Andøya Spaceport, department of Operations, with an operative role in the launch team
  • Spaceport Safety Manager: 1-year temporary position (with possibility for extension) in Andøya Spaceport, department of Operations 

Andøya Space Group are rapidly evolving, and we seek candidates with initiative, independence, flexibility, and willingness to take responsibility. All positions will be located on Andøya. Working language is primarily English.
 
Andøya Spaceport is currently building what we believe will become Europe’s first mainland launch site for small launch vehicles (SSLVs). The first launch pad will be finalized in 2023 to allow for a maiden launch of ISAR Aerospace’s Spectrum launcher.  
 
The Safety Manager for Andøya Space Group will work within the department of Quality, Safety & Security and across all business units to assure a safe and secure environment. The position will have a wide range of tasks and responsibilities connected to safety, e.g. administrative tasks and operational tasks for ground and flight safety. The position will cooperate with the two other positions in this vacancy.  
 
The 1-year position as Spaceport Safety Manager in the Operations Department of Andøya Spaceport will coordinate safety activities related to the Spaceport, including follow up of the licensing processes internally and towards the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB).
 
The Launch Safety Officer in the Operations Department of Andøya Spaceport will in the project phase support the Spaceport Safety Manager in elaborating safety documentation, including training curriculum and operational processes and procedures. The candidate will become part of the operational team when we enter the operational phase. Both the Spaceport Safety Manager and Launch Safety Officer will work to reach operational readiness and prepare for increasing cadence.

Tasks / Responsabilities

  • Prepare for and maintain safe operations through implementing safety strategies, continuous safety promotion and monitoring and mitigations of safety risks (safety management system)
  • Develop safety plans and strategies, including management, flight and ground safety
  • Ensure the development of mission safety in cooperation with launch operators
  • Contribute to the evolution of operational safety processes, procedures and training curriculum necessary for operating orbital launchers from Andøya
  • Continue the work of obtaining licenses from the Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB) for storage and handling of hazardous materials (the seveso-directive) as well as launch site operator license from the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)
  • Developing and maintaining a sound safety culture within, and encouraging our partners and customers to comply with our standards

Qualifications - Education

  • Master’s degree in e.g. legal, safety/security, engineering, social sciences or natural sciences. Special knowledge/experience can compensate for a master’s degree.
  • All positions require experience within safety and risk management
  • Experience from or work with public administration, e.g. an authority or a license application process is preferred
  • Knowledge of/work with hazard area sea and air, e.g. NOTAM, is beneficial
  • Proven skills in analysis and report writing is beneficial 
  • Experience from operational environments, e.g. launch ranges, aviation, oil and gas industry and mechanical industry is beneficial
  • Experience in space engineering, space systems technology or operations is beneficial
  • Fluent in written and oral English
  • Working proficiency in Norwegian is beneficial

The candidates must be eligible to obtain a Norwegian security clearance
