Specialist Cell biologist for cell feed

As we strive to feed a growing population in a safe and sustainable way, we will need to utilize a variety of new and emerging protein production methods alongside traditional farming. Nutreco partnered with cultivated protein companies to develop sustainable inputs for the emerging cellular agriculture industry.

As Specialist Cell Biologist for Cell Feed, you contribute to our purpose of Feeding the Future by advancing Nutreco’s work on cell culture media development. You will be part of a small, entrepreneurial team building research capabilities and conducting product development to create a “cell feed” business. We are looking for a scientist to join our Biotechnology team for a 24 months temporary assignment.

In this role, you will be focusing on testing and developing cell culture media for different cell types relevant to the cultivated protein industry. You will be a key player in implementing methodologies and further extend the scope of techniques used in-house.  The position requires a hands-on mentality and close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners from the cultivated protein industry. Most of the work will take place in our innovative and radical Research Centre, the Skretting Bubble. You will be part of Skretting’s Biotechnology team, as well as the broader cultivated protein initiative led by Nutreco’s innovation and investment department NuFrontiers.

This position is located in Stavanger, Norway.

Key responsibilities:

• Set-up cell culture models (2D and 3D)
• Tailor made media development 
• Premixes testing on several cell types
• Cell nutrition research
• Run projects and deliver data to the project managers

Qualifications/experience:

• Holding a PhD in cell biology /biochemistry/molecular biology / biotechnology/biomedicine is preferable
• Experience with cell culture 2D and 3D models
• Experience with Induced pluripotent stem cell is advantageous
• Knowledge in cell culture media development/cell nutrition
• Experience in spent media analyses
• Experience in developing and optimizing new methods
• Experience in experiment design and statistics
