As a VP of Appliance Software, you will play a critical role in the continued growth of Graphcore and you will be leading and managing the Appliance Software engineering teams and be responsible for the software stack. This is a role that requires both strategic and tactical capabilities; combining systems and strategic thinking with being able to 'roll your sleeves up' and get things done. In this role you will also drive the development of our software products. The Appliance Software unit delivers software that is embedded in our IPU-M networked AI accelerator appliance box. In addition, the unit delivers an advanced software defined data-center solution for managing large IPU-PODs.

Today the unit consists of 5 teams (Platform, Virtualization, Orchestration, Monitoring & Control and DevOps/Test). The plan is to grow with about 35 people within a short time.

Responsibilities:

Lead and grow a large unit of software engineers
Own the Appliance Software release schedule and roadmap planning progress and its delivery
Managing the quality processes around the development and delivery of all of Appliance Software products
Develop a deep understanding of all the core hardware and software technology Graphcore builds and how it is used from top to bottom of the software stack
Support the multi-functional software team at a senior level and ensure the delivery of Graphcore software products and its continuous improvement
Work along with the software development teams to improve processes and development workflows ensuring that developer productivity is a key focus
Work with the product and customer facing organization to prioritise and plan the roadmap and schedule for the Appliance Software and associated tools, and align this with the Poplar SDK roadmap
Work closely with the infrastructure and QA organisations to ensure that product delivery and release are fully tested
Help make Graphcore’s IPU-Machine and IPU-POD products easier to use and more accessible to large numbers of developers
Be an externally facing technical advocate for Graphcore at events and conferences

What you’ll bring:

Strong experience of leading and growing teams of software engineers, along with change management
Have high levels of credibility and the ability to influence and build strong relationships with senior stakeholders
Strong background in product development and delivery of software and/or hardware products along with supporting released products in the field
Solid understanding of the full software lifecycle and experience of handling and setting priorities for development activities
Ability to understand complex technical issues, related business challenges, and work with others to develop strategies to effectively address them
Motivated, dynamic, creative self-starter, able to generate solutions and promote them to highly technical teams
Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills
Degree or higher in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent technical experience

Good to have:

Experience in distributed computing and cloud infrastructure
Experience in high-performance computing
Experience in quality processes such as ISO 9000/900
