So we are looking for our next great Chief Enterprise Architect. Someone who doesn’t just have a deep understanding of the complexity of building distributed systems, but also a great understanding of business and how technology and architecture impacts our ability to reach our goals.

We have done a lot of things right in FINN.no, and our innovative and high performing Technology unit of 170+ developers is a large part of the success story. We have spent the last 10 years going from a monolith to an asynchronous, event driven micro services architecture.

One of our core values is hunger and we always want to get better. Increased international competition, changing user behavior and emerging technology constantly keeps us on our toes. Even if we have come a long way, there are still plenty of exciting challenges left. The biggest one is our strategy to create next generation marketplaces that meet the needs of our users and customers even better.

We need to make sure our platform supports this strategy. That means being more explicit about what constitutes our platform and creating “platform capabilities” allowing us to develop new products and services faster and more autonomously. We must also make it easier to integrate with others, and for them to integrate with us.

What you’ll be up to

Your main mission will be to define, own and communicate the technical vision and roadmap needed to develop the FINN platform in the years to come, making sure it supports the FINN strategy in the short and long term.

You will need to work closely with the commercial parts of the FINN organisation, and you can expect to advise management on decisions on strategic topics involving technology. FINN.no is a part of the Schibsted Media Group, which has recently made acquisitions in Finland and Denmark. As part of this group you will also find our Swedish sister site www.blocket.se. This means that you will need to think beyond Norway and FINN.no, and consider a Nordic perspective

You can’t do all this on your own. As part of this role you will be leading a small team of enterprise architects. Currently this team consists of three highly skilled and very experienced software engineers. They have free and autonomous roles, and work independently of the organisation lines. **

You need to be able to build cross functional relationships to all parts of FINN.no.

To thrive in this role you need to you have the interpersonal and technical skills to involve, work with and coach our technical teams. You believe in team work and understand the importance of collaboration. You understand the interdependencies between systems and organisation, and have knowledge about and interest in organisational theory as applied to product development organisations. You know that you don’t have all the answers, but you know how to ask good questions and involve people to find the right path.

Background / Skills

• Academic Degree within Computer Science or similar

• Extensive coding experience

• Demonstrated ability to do digital product development at scale

• Solid experience with building large and complex systems

• Experience with working in large organisations with many development teams

• Knowledge across the entire stack, front-end, services, and persistence

• Knowledge about data pipelines, event driven architecture, data on the inside versus outside.

• Solid and proven understanding of business

• Fluent in Norwegian and/or English

Bonus

• Knowledge about Domain Driven Design, especially the strategic design part

• Team leadership experience

We (Vegard, Helge, Bente, Halvor and Morten) are IT leaders with various experiences. We have different areas of responsibility but often work together. We are passionate about creating a strong Tech environment in the company, and to contribute to FINN's success through technology. As a group, we love a good discussion, but always with objectivity and good intentions as the foundation.

We have backgrounds as developers, team leads and product owners. We’ve headed tech teams, products, projects and services. We’ve made tons of mistakes in different positions, and we use this experience to motivate our tech organisation to move fast towards our goals.

We’ve got many years in our collective FINN belt, but we’ve also built stuff for Telenor, NRK, MET, Fronter, and USIT – to mention a few.

Hi, I am your new manager!

My name is Nicolai and I have been working in FINN for 12 years. I started out as a developer, have had different team and department leads roles over the years and have been the CTO of FINN since 2016.

I am a huge believer in the power of collaboration and autonomous teams. I am convinced that diverse groups of people deliver better results. I love to discuss big and complex challenges be they technical or organisational, on a white board (or in Miro these days). I naturally lean towards logic and rationality in my leadership, but I truly appreciate the impact engagement and passion can have on results so I try to constantly challenge myself to find ways of fostering this.

My career in FINN is getting pretty long, but I constantly find new challenges and goals that motivate me. Right now I really look forward to taking our platform to the next level, but I need your help.
