We are currently searching for a Pattern Maker / Product Engineering Manager to lead our team of Product Specialists (Patter Makers) and Product Technicians in the RD&D Department. The role reports directly to our RD&D Director. For this position it is expected of you to manage your team of approx 10 employees, in addition be highly operative working on own projects within pattern making. The role requires a strong structural mindset and a high working capacity to be able to succeed.

The role is responsible for in-house development and prototyping. It also consists of constructing Norrøna products based on the Design brief, following our quality, function, design and sustainability requirements, while taking into account feedback from product technicians, designers, testers, and fitting sessions. The position also requires overseeing the teams development of the full product specifications (BOM, technical drawings, measurement chart, production markers, etc.) during in-house development and until the handover of this data package to the Product Developers, at the highest quality level and meeting our development deadlines.


Main responsibilities 

Team management

  • Maintaining in-house prototyping workflow
  • Coordinating and prioritizing pattern and prototype production within the team to secure an effective utilization of all resources and deliveries according to the corporate timelines
  • Owning all systems related to pattern making, marker making, 3D development and prototyping 
  • Owning, negotiating, and managing all IT contracts and budgets related to those systems
  • Drive relevant projects within the Development team and the RD&D department

Pattern making lead  

  • Responsible for all decisions and processes related to pattern making and product specifications, in agreement with the RD&D management team
  • Coaching team members to ensure personal development 
  • Owning the Norrøna fit and defining the overall fit strategy for the brand in alignment with the Director of RD&D and other stakeholders
  • Owning and maintaining the block library
  • Developing concept blocks for the upcoming collections, when applicable

Development and Sampling

  • Owning the patterns for your own style developments
  • Recommending and implementing solutions that meet Norrøna’s and the end-consumer’s expectations in terms of quality, function, design, and sustainability
  • Synchronizing all pattern and development work within the Product Specialist team to secure a well-coordinated collection in terms of fit and solutions
  • Lead evaluation meetings and document feedback and changes on development prototypes

Product Specification

  • Driving all open points topics to the product development to create the world’s best outdoor products, following up with other team members within and outside of the department
  • Owning complete product specifications from design brief to approved handover to Product Quality Team 
  • Ensuring all consumption of fabrics and trims in BOM is correct according to Norrøna consumption rules
  • Develop pattern measurement chart
  • Create technical details and implement technical solutions according to Norrøna standards and the rest of the collection
  • Produce detailed sketches to support garment production and ensure the right quality level

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience
  • Relevant education in pattern making and sewing
  • Excellent knowledge of computerized pattern design is a must. Knowledge of Lectra Modaris is preferred
  • 10yrs+ experience working as a pattern maker preferred
  • High level of garment construction knowledge and experience with overseas manufacturing is a must
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator or Corel Designer
  • Knowledge and experience of product lifecycle management is a plus, if possible Centric PLM
  • Experience with technical product solutions / outdoor garments 
  • Good communication skills in English, knowledge of a Scandinavian language is a plus
