In this role, the Sales Manager will aggressively drive Spear revenue growth with a focus on the Scandinavian marine propulsion market. They will develop and lead the customer engagement strategy for the technology leader in marine batteries with a unique opportunity to rapidly expand market share. They will engage stakeholders throughout the marine value chain including route owners, vessel operators, shipyards, naval architects, and system integrators.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Increase Spear’s sales revenue by identifying opportunities, delivering timely proposals clearly articulating Spear’s value proposition with a winning price, and negotiating purchase orders to a close.
  • Increase brand awareness in the Scandinavian and broader European marine propulsion market through direct customer visits, press releases, social media posts, email campaigns, exhibiting at trade shows, and conference speaking engagements.
  • Increase Spear’s bottom line with effective pricing strategies.
  • Clearly communicate customer requirements to Spear internal stakeholders
  • Develop strategic partnerships with key customers
  • Create revenue forecasts
  • Maintain records of customer interactions and upcoming projects
  • Identify new potential customer and introduce them to Spear

Competencies

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills required
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required
  • Experience with customer relationship management systems preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities

The sales manager will be the senior sales leader for Spear in Scandinavia. They will directly supervise future account managers in their region. They will provide guidance to application engineers who support them in proposal development.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and office software applications.

Physical requirements

  • Position requires frequent communication and walking to other locations within the organization.
  • Position will require standing and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use office equipment to effectively perform duties

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Flexible hours may be discussed. This position requires occasional support of meetings with colleagues in the United States outside of typical working hours.

Travel

This position requires extensive domestic travel within Norway, 2-3 days up to 3 weeks per month. The position requires some travel in Europe, one week every two months. The position requires occasional travel to North America, approximately one week two times per year.

Language

  • Fluent written and spoken Norwegian and English required
  • Proficient written and spoken Dutch, German, French, Italian, Spanish, or Turkish a benefit

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or economics preferred
  • Master’s degree in business desired
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience selling large capital equipment to shipyards and ship owners is required
