Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies.  The position of Operations Director is located at Kjelsås in Oslo.  In this role, you will have responsibilities for all operations activities, and oversee sourcing, planning, production, QC, maintenance and projects in operations. The position of Operations Director is located at Kjelsås in Oslo.  In this role, you will have responsibilities for all operations activities, and oversee sourcing, planning, production, warehouse, shipments, QC, maintenance and projects in Operations. Our business strategy is funded on Operational Excellence.

At the site in Oslo, we develop and manufacture a range of patent-protected diagnostic products for use in medical offices and clinics and employ approximately 250 employees. Our flagship Afinion, is a proprietary analysis system in use in more than 80 countries.  Several new Afinion assays are under development. The assay production takes place at Kjelsås using highly advanced, fully automated, production lines. The company is ISO 13485 certified and comply with GMP and FDA requirements.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

People

• Manage the Operations Unit, report per approved metrics and targets, lead and participate in tiered meetings at site and within the business unit
• Assess people resources required, recruit and develop people per plan, review performance of individuals
• Ensure that Abbott ESH standards and procedures are followed and report accordingly

Customers

• Responsible for ensuring that the distribution centers have product available at the right time
• Technical transfer of new and improved products and processes to secure robust and predictable manufacturing
• Responsible for assessing future capacity needs, ensure capital is requested and approved in time for the capacity to be installed when it is needed. Select and maintain the production equipment

Cost

• Ensure that the production is cost effective
• Plan and implement effective cost reduction measures
• Operational Excellence is the governance model for the unit; secure roadmap milestones and continuous improvements and cost reductions

Quality & Compliance

• Responsible for ensuring compliance and that the operation adheres to the laws and regulations of the countries to which products are distributed
• Ensure equipment, production processes and methods are validated and monitored as per procedures and Abbott quality management standards
• Ensure proper process control and product control as per procedures and Abbott quality management standards

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Science or equivalent education. Long and relevant experience might compensate for lack of formal education
• 5-10 years’ experience as Operation Director/Manager in a manufacturing environment, preferably within life-science
• Experience from fully automated high-volume production
• Proven track record from driving gross margin improvements
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing environment, controls and effectiveness
• Experience with Quality Management Standards e.g. ISO13485, GMP
• Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language). Candidates willing to learn Norwegian in a short time frame will also be considered.
• A continuous improvement mindset. Experience from Lean 6-Sigma is an advantage
