DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:
MRB, Ålesund, Norway are assisting our client, De Beers Marine (DBM), in finding a well-qualified person or persons for participating in the building of the new crawler diamond mining vessel.
The Additional Mining Vessel 3 (AMV3) project is for the delivery of a new crawler diamond mining vessel for offshore operations in Namibia. The vessel detailed design will be completed by Damen in the Netherlands and Norway and the construction and delivery of the vessel will be completed by Damen Mangalia, in Romania.
The planned build period is from May 2019 to March 2021. Following delivery of the vessel platform, the vessel will sail to Cape Town where the majority of mining equipment will be installed on board.
The selected individual will be part of the team responsible for the design, construction and delivery of the AMV3 during the building phase of the vessel in the shipyard and will primarily be based in Mangalia, Romania for the duration of this process. The provision of integration and commissioning assistance in South Africa following vessel delivery may additionally be required.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Evaluation of shipyard engineering, production and logistics progress to confirm progress in accordance with schedule and determining risks related to delivery of the vessel by the contract delivery date.
Implement risk mitigation strategies in response to project requirements
Manage project schedule and cost risk assessment / evaluation processes
Equipment specification reviews, with a particular emphasis on electrical, control and instrumentation, power management, navigation and dynamic positioning.
Installation support and quality inspections of vessel systems with focus on:
· Mission Equipment – as incorporated into vessel systems design
· Interaction with DBM Electrical and A&I personnel based in Cape Town to ensure installations are in compliance with De Beers Marine standards as well configured to seamlessly interface with Mission Equipment installations in Cape Town
· Electrical and A&I spares optimization, commissioning oversight and equipment data manuals management
· FATs of vessel and Mission Equipment Electrical and A&I equipment
· Acceptance of vessel and Mission Equipment electrical systems testing and installation in Romania (including FATs, primarily in European countries outside Romania)
· Acceptance of vessel and Mission Equipment A&I systems commissioning (including sea trials) and handover in Romania
Partake in ensuring vessel readiness for delivery voyage to Cape Town
Provide input into Vessel Platform specification and delivery functions as required
Manage, generate and present reports, plans, and presentations as required
SKILLS/PERSONAL COMPETENCIES:
Strategic and Analytical thinking
Teamwork and People Management skills, and the ability to influence and interact at all levels in the organization
Strong planning, co-ordinating, prioritizing and organizational skills
Excellent English Communication skills (verbal, written and presentation skills)
Must be self-driven, with the ability to work independently and good interpersonal skills to work with others
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Relevant higher Maritime or Technical education
Professional Engineer (or equivalent) registered or eligible (Beneficial)
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 7 years new building experience in a shipyard constructing offshore/construction or similar type vessels.
Relevant post qualification experience as an Electrical, Electronics, Automation, Control and Instrumentation Engineer, in the marine environment would be advantageous.
Exposure to marine vessels with minimum DP2 positioning systems.
Exposure to Kongsberg, ABB and Wartsila systems would be advantageous.
Exposure to marine vessels with medium and low voltage installations.
A good understanding of: digital electronics, processor systems and computer operating systems, analogue electronics, marine navigation and communication systems, communication protocol.
Familiar with SOLAS, IEC and Ships Classification Society Standards .
A good understanding of electrical engineering, automation, control and instrumentation engineering and design (Distribution Network Design, Short Circuit Calculations, Harmonic Distortion, Power Generation) utilizing electrical simulation software to evaluate distribution networks.
Power management system development and integrated automation system implementation experience.
