Develop advanced embedded hardware for future control systems
Jefferson Wells is looking for a skilled Embedded Hardware Developer for a 6-month assignment with good possibilities for extension. The position is based in Kongsberg and involves advanced embedded electronics development for control systems used in subsea and renewable energy applications.
You will be employed by Jefferson Wells and work on assignment at our client’s site.
Tasks and Responsibilities
You will join the Controls & Automation team, contributing to the design, development, qualification, integration, and production of embedded hardware products from early concept through field operation. In a collaborative, multidisciplinary development environment, your main responsibilities will include:

Define hardware requirements in close cooperation with system architects, software architects, and product owners

Design and develop embedded hardware circuits, PCBAs, and FPGA modules, including component selection, schematic creation, PCB layout, and prototyping

Perform functional verification of hardware circuits, assemblies, and modules

Work closely with mechanical design, layout, production, reliability, and software teams to develop integrated hardware products

Develop and document procedures for testing, verification, and environmental qualification
Background and Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with strong competence in embedded electronics development and a structured approach to problem-solving:

BSc, MSc, or PhD in electronics, automation, cybernetics, or similar engineering disciplines

3–5 years of industrial experience in embedded hardware design and product industrialization
-
Professional working proficiency in English and ability to work in multicultural teams
-
Solution-oriented, quality-conscious, and continuously striving for improvements
Key competencies include:
-
Digital circuit design and serial communication interfaces (CAN, RSXXX, I2C, SPI, USB)
-
Understanding of SoC platforms, microcontrollers, and signal processing
-
Advanced FPGA development using VHDL and standard verification methods
-
Familiarity with tools such as LT SPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, Python, and Intel Quartus
-
Programming skills in C, C++, or assembly for embedded systems
-
Experience with ECAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer) for schematic capture and PCB layout
-
Competence in lab instruments like oscilloscopes, logic/network analyzers, signal generators, and simulators
-
Design for manufacturability and testability (DFX), EMC compliance, and CE marking
-
Knowledge of safety and reliability standards such as IEC 61508
