Help us build a European market for CO2 transport and storage services
Northern Lights JV DA is executing the first phase of the Northern Lights project allowing for 1.5 mln tonne CO2 stored annually. We are seeking to further expand into a phase 2 (5 mln tonne annually) and beyond. We are building a portfolio of commercial customers who seek to safely store their CO2 emissions and to launch a European wide CCS business in alignment with all three shareholders’ aspirations. With increased activity,we are now looking for a Senior Legal Counsel.

You will play a key role in the Northern Lights legal team, reporting to the Legal and Regulatory Affairs Director.

As Senior Legal Counsel in Northern Lights you will, amongst other things, have the opportunity to:
- Provide business-oriented legal advice on a wide variety of national and international matters to other departments and business units of the company
- Participate in negotiations with customers and other business development activities, including contracts review and drafting support on agreements
- Advice on permitting and other authority processes
- Ensure that Northern Lights’ business is conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, rules, and procedures
- Establish and execute internal training within the legal and compliance area
- Provide legal input in communication with authorities and when appropriate, serve as focal point towards authorities
What we need from you?
The Northern Lights team operates with a "one team" and a strong new business mentality with support from shareholders both directly and through various service agreements. You will need to be willing and able to challenge conventional thinking and approaches to arrive at innovative, fit for purpose and effective business outcomes.
More specifically:
- Experienced legal counsel within contract law and negotiations, either from law firm or in-house within industry/energy sector
- Norwegian masters level legal degree (master in Law) with strong academic results
- Strong interest for the energy transition
- Experience with regulatory framework within the space of national energy law and/or EU legislation and interactions with authorities and other external stake holders is beneficial, although not a strict requirement
- Commercial mindset
- Fluency in Norwegian and English, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work with complex stakeholder environments
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability, and desire to interact efficiently with management and colleagues at all levels of a multi-discipline organisation
- Organized, responsible, accurate, and with absolute integrity
This is a local role in Stavanger. However, it should be expected some travel both domestically and internationally.
Om arbeidsgiveren
Northern Lights JV DA is responsible for developing and operating CO2 transport and storage facilities open to third parties, as part of Longship, the Norwegian Government’s full-scale carbon capture and storage project. When the project is ready for operations in 2024, it will be the first ever cross-border, open-source CO2 transport and storage infrastructure network, shipping CO2 to an onshore receiving terminal at Øygarden on the Norwegian west coast, before being transported by pipeline for permanent storage in a reservoir 2,600 metres under the seabed.
Northern Lights JV DA is a registered, incorporated General Partnership with Shared Liability (DA) owned equally by Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies.
