Being a pivotal role in the concept of production of a Morrow Designed Cell puts the Development team at the heart of this exciting journey. The Team will translate early concept technology into fully developed, optimized & validated cells and transfer the technology to Morrows commercial production lines. The team will work to further improve established technologies while also pioneering the production of next generation sustainable technologies.
About the role
In this role you will be a crucial part of our cell development team, focusing on the design of experiments (DOE) and driving material, electrode, and cell performance characterization. Your work will involve performing root cause analysis as we iterate on next-generation cell designs and material stacks. Additionally, you will evaluate upcoming technologies to assess their feasibility in meeting our future cell technology targets.
This role will have the opportunity to make actual and direct contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should have a can-do attitude and enjoy bringing research into reality.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Define requirements for battery product quality, development schedule, design of experiment (DOE), BOM cost, and performance parameters.
- Drive key engineering decisions with internal teams and external cell manufacturers to advance cell designs to mass production.
- Collaborate with internal design teams to define cell electrochemical, mechanical, and safety performance requirements.
- Research and develop new battery cell manufacturing processes to accommodate new battery products, resolve problems by examining and evaluating data, and selecting corrective actions.
- Work with internal multi-functional teams and external customers to promote and accelerate promising battery technologies for customer use.
- Define test plans to validate new cell designs and identify root causes of failure modes.
- Participate in scale-up activities to ensure successful production of qualified materials and batteries.
- Work with internal manufacturing team to scale cells for prototyping, pilot, and production.
- Participate in the development and execution of quality control methods necessary to fabricate reproducible, high-quality cells.
- Support continuous improvement of battery cell production processes and equipment.
- Engage with suppliers on cell development.
- Review cell data sheets, handling manuals, and other technical documents.
- Manage project planning and tracking.
- Contribute to cell development for future-generation products.
- Master’s degree in Chemical engineering, Chemistry, or a related field, or a an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience in the development of advanced battery cell technologies.
- 2+ years of experience in the following battery categories: LFP, NCM, electrolytes, advanced cathodes/anodes, pilot line design, and assembly.
- Demonstrated expertise in the theory and practical application of electrochemistry.
- Advanced understanding of battery cell-level performance and life cycle characterization methods, along with proficiency in operating associated dedicated test equipment.
- Strong background in the theory, operation, and data interpretation of common analytical equipment (e.g., DSC, FTIR, etc.) and electrochemical tools (EIS, cell cyclers, etc.).
- Proficient communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- A good team player while also capable of independent work.
- Highly motivated with a positive and can-do attitude in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis so please do not wait to apply.
