Programme Advisor

Tropical rainforests are under critical with around 15 billion trees being cut down every year globally. WWF's report Deforestation Fronts showed that deforestation is concentrated in 24 regions in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia and Oceania. Over 43 million hectares, an area roughly the size of Morocco, was lost in these 'deforestation fronts' between 2004 and 2017.

WWF works actively to protect tropical rainforests across the world. As part of this effort WWF-Norway is seeking the services of a Programme Advisor in a permanent role, to support the implementation of the Norad/Norwegian International Climate and Forests Initiative (NICFI) funded programme "Sustaining Tropical Forests for Climate, Nature and People".

This programme which commenced in 2021, has the goal of reducing and reversing the loss of tropical forests and fighting climate change for nature and people. The key target of the programme is ensuring the development of deforestation and conversion free commodity and financial markets in Brazil, China, Colombia and Norway by 2025. To make this a reality, WWF-Norway has a partnership with WWF-offices in each of the countries to deliver on the overall programme goals.

In this role, the Programme Advisor will be tasked with managing the overall grant portfolio ensuring that implementation of the programme is successful and delivering high quality outcomes. The Advisor will also be responsible for providing strategic leadership and coordination support to each of the partner offices under the grant.

  • Take strategic leadership and provide added value for the programme offices.
  • Contribute to the process of developing further applications and proposals for related funding.
  • Collaborate with other WWF offices and external stakeholders.
  • Work with the communications team to highlight priority issues.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in relevant field.
  • Good knowledge of deforestation and nature conversion, with an understanding of the role played by soft commodity markets in driving deforestation.
  • Experience in project management, budgeting and project reporting. Specific experience in grant management within the development sector is considered an advantage.
  • Knowlegde for relevant aspects of international forest policy, international trade and the finance sector are considered an advantage.
  • Flexible self-starter with great interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in cross-cultural environments.
  • Location: Oslo
  • Fluency in English is required. Competence in one or more of Norwegian, Mandarin, Spanish or Portuguese considered an advantage.

We offer:

  • At WWF, you will be part of a very pleasant and inclusive working environment with competent and commited colleagues.
  • You will gain valuable experience in an organization that is a commited challenger and a provider of solutions to many of the most important political issues of our time.
  • At WWF, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in a knowledge-based and well-respected environmental organization.
  • WWF-Norway has 75 employees and an office in central Oslo.
  • We offer flexible solutions for working from home, and good welfare schemes such as paid lunch breaks, support for public transportation and internet at home.

About WWF
WWF is one of the world's largest environmental organizations with a presence in nearly 100 countries. We work to stop the destruction of nature and create a future where people live in harmony with nature. WWF works knowledge-based and purposefully to create solutions to the underlying causes of climate change and loss of nature. Our values are courage, respect, integrity and collaboration.

In Norway, we work to preserve natural values and biodiversity in the sea and on land. We spend a lot of time influencing Norwegian environmental policy and legislation to achieve our environmental goals. In 2020, WWF ran the TV campaign "An ocean of opportunities". We support international nature conservation and development projects in several African countries and in Asia. The work is done in collaboration with local people, local organizations and authorities. These projects are mainly funded by Norad. We have an annual turnover of around NOK 200 million, divided between public funds and funds from private donors and the Postcode Lottery. We are Eco-Lighthouse certified, and our greenhouse gas emissions must be in line with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees.
