Take the lead of our vessel cost control activities for the WSM Cruise fleet, helping us reach our strategic ambitions. Leveraging valuable insights to manage business risks. Working to foster a collaborative environment with key stakeholders such as Senior Management, Technical and Crew Management. Ensuring unification and achievements of business outcomes through diligent budget preparations processes. Through accurate capturing of expenses and forecasting analysis to key stakeholders and reviews budget overrun reports.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in cost management to maximize efficiency with allocated budgets. Taking responsibility for analyzing, monitoring, and evaluating expenses with the aim of cost controlling for vessels under management with excellent people management skills.

Who you will work with: 

The Technical Cost Controller will report to Customer Key Account Manager and Fleet Manager for the Cruise Fleet. Working in partnership with the Fleet Manager whilst collaborating and supporting WSM Centers; Accounting and Procurement Shared Service in Malaysia.


What you will be doing: 

  • Managing interactions with key stakeholders in relation to fund management activities such as sufficient funding by vessel Owner and funds received timely.
  • Consulting with Fleet manager to prepare and present budget & forecasting analysis results to relevant stakeholders, ranging from senior management to ship owners.
  • Reviewing cost overrun areas and propose recommendations to Fleet Manager based on budget and forecast reports.
  • Reviewing financial reports to ensure expenditure falls within budget or fund allocation.
  • Reviewing fleetwide spend in specific cost categories and proposing service improvement measures.
  • Performing financial analysis on operating expenses (OPEX), Dry dock, capital expenditure (CAPEX) and other non-opex additional cost of vessels.
  • Participating in OPEX review meetings with internal team and vessel Owner.
  • Working closely with the accounting/procurement team to ensure OPEX and CAPEX costs are correctly captured, including preparation of OPEX and CAPEX entries.
  • Liaising with Vessel Managers regularly to ensure expense sheets are maintained correctly with the right commentary & account coding.
  • Work closely with internal auditor to ensure compliance of procedures as well as external auditor for statutory non-financial audit.
  • Reviewing and enhancing control procedures/efficiency/governance of workflows.
  • Support in ad-hoc tasks as required.


What we are looking for:

Someone with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance with 3+ years of relevant work experience in OPEX controlling, vessel accounting & financial analysis within maritime/shipping company or related. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education. Other qualifications include: 

  • Good analytical & financial reporting skills.
  • A team player with the capability to work independently when needed. Good written and spoken English.
  • Possess good business acumen.
  • Proficiency with financial software packages (SAP), especially MS office and BI tools (Tableau and/or Power BI).
  • Detail-oriented and excellent at reviewing and numbers.
  • Dynamic and flexible.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving.
