We are announcing a 3-year postdoctoral position at the research group for anabolic androgenic steroid research, section for clinical addiction research, Oslo University Hospital. The position is linked to the project “Anabolic steroids and brain health; the fountain of youth that accelerates aging (ASAGE)?”, owned by the Norwegian Brain Council and funded through Stiftelsen Dam.
The research project will contribute with critical knowledge of the impact of long-term AAS use on measures of biological aging such as telomere length and brain aging, and how hormonal fluctuations and imbalances affect cognitive functions and mental health.
The position will be integrated with Section for Clinical Addiction Research (RusForsk) group, which includes researchers at all levels. The project is highly interdisciplinary in nature, involving various hospital, university and international expertise. The research fellow will work with already existing data and will also be responsible for collecting new data. The research fellow will examine associations with abnormal aging and mental health.

Duties and responsibilities

The key tasks include to recruit participants for an additional examination involving blood sampling, prepare and run analyses of mental health, genetic and neuroimaging data, and interpret and prepare the results for publication and other forms of dissemination. Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold a doctoral (ph.d. or equivalent) degree in psychology, medicine, cognitive neuroscience or similar. Candidates who will complete and defend their degree within the starting date will be considered.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills (team player) is required
  • Excellent English scientific writing skills is required
  • Documented interest in and experience with research within either mental health, substance use disorders, cognitive neuroscience and/or research dealing with the use of anabolic steroids in humans is required
  • Previous experience with interdisciplinary research projects is an advantage
  • Excellent skills with statistical analysis using relevant software (e.g. R, SPSS) is required
  • Interest and competence in biomarkers of biological and mental health aging, hormones is an advantage
  • Previous experience with analysis of hormone or brain MRI data is an advantage
  • Documented experience with Open science practices is an advantage
  • Can speak Norwegian or another Scandinavian language fluently
