ABB is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Coast Guard & Navy business line. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will become part of a small, multidisciplinary team dedicated to working with some of the most demanding customers in the marine industry. We develop electrical propulsion, power, and automation systems to meet strict electrical and mechanical requirements. This includes the design of modular enclosures, mounting solutions, and liquid/air-cooled systems. Office location : Fornebu or Ulsteinvik.


Your responsibilities

  • Develop and implement mechanical solutions based on design rules, standards and customer requirements.
  • Evaluate concepts and challenge existing technical solutions.
  • Prepare 3D models and associated documentation for manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance.
  • Perform simulations or hand calculations to virtually test and refine designs.
  • Follow up assembly and testing of equipment.
  • Document the design process, iterations, and test results.
  • Evaluate third party components and sub suppliers.
  • Provide technical support to our sales department.


Your background

  • BSc/MSc with emphasis on product development or mechanical design.
  • Creative with good problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Experience with one or more CAD software, for example SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of calculations using FEA and/or CFD.
  • Interest for structural dynamics, like shock and vibration.
  • Knowledgeable of materials and manufacturing technologies.
  • Collaborative and service minded, both internally and towards customers.
  • Interested in learning about marine industry and power systems.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
