We are now looking for Legal Counsel with responsibility for risk and compliance to join our team and help us maintain the highest standards of compliance in our industry.
About the team
Volue has a team consisting of Head of Legal, Head of Quality & Sustainability, Compliance Advisor and strategic advisors who work together to ensure that Volue has a compliance function which focuses on enabling the organization in providing products and services to our customers while at the same time ensuring that we operate in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
As a Legal Counsel with responsibility for risk and compliance at Volue you will play a crucial role in this work – not only in Norway but also all other countries where Volue operates. The team has a flexible setup, cooperating closely while at the same time having clear divisions of responsibilities. This means that you will be in charge of giving legal advice within your areas of responsibility, creating internal policies and procedures, train the organization and follow up that the organization is operating in accordance with the compliance framework.
You will work closely with our teams delivering software and services to the energy industry, driving compliance efforts and culture for ethical behavior at Volue with emphasis on our service offering to the power sector. We are looking for someone with knowledge of the power trading market and the regulatory framework applicable to that market, for example REMIT and Transparency Regulation. Familiarity with the Nordic regulators such as NVE-RME is advantageous. Experience with Financial Supervision Act, Money Laundering Act etc. would be beneficial due to the fact that part of Volue’s business operates under a license from Finanstilsynet and that the responsibilities includes the KYC process.
What you will be doing to make a difference:
- Document, maintain, develop and implement compliance policies and procedures to ensure these are in line with laws and regulations in all relevant countries, best practices and Volue values. This entails following up on established routines for compliance, report on these and improve practices as needed.
- Provide guidance to the organization and training to employees on compliance-related matters. This entails training relevant teams in ethical business conduct and decision making and to facilitate a culture for compliance across all levels of the organisation.
- Stay up-to-date with industry regulations and monitor changes to ensure compliance, both generally and with emphasis on our energy market services.
- Help maintain accurate records and documentation related to compliance activities. You will ensure that changes are made to operating practices and procedures documented in Volue Quality system where applicable.
- Leverage your expertise in the energy market to enhance Volue’s enterprise risk management processes, for example, by incorporating energy market insights into risk identification and risk mitigation strategies.
- Conduct regular compliance assessments and audits to identify areas of improvement. You will monitor and assess Volue’s activities to identify non-compliance and areas for improvement and contribute to the company’s risk management and mitigation efforts as well as corporate audit processes.
What you need to succeed:
- Master of law or similar relevant legal education
- Experience from the Energy Power trading and/or production market
- 2-5 years of experience within compliance, auditing, risk management or similar legal roles.
- Strong knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Language proficiency in both Norwegian and English
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with the ability to work together with teams from different backgrounds and locations
- Strong analytical and problem- solving skills and commercial understanding, combined with openness to explore new ways to address the field of compliance
