Aibel, in collaboration with Utror, has entered into a framework agreement for the development and realization of offshore aquaculture. Initially, this partnership will focus on a feasibility study. Leveraging each other’s expertise, Aibel and Utror aim to establish offshore salmon farming. The Aquaculture domain, which resides within the Concepts and Studies department, plays a crucial role in this endeavor. 

The convergence of expertise and innovation in offshore aquaculture holds great potential for meeting the growing demand for sustainable protein sources while ensuring food security for the future. Concepts and Studies, based in Oslo, is seeking a skilled Mechanical and Net Design Engineer to join their team. As part of the Aquaculture domain, you will play a crucial role within the Concepts and Studies department.

About the position

As a Mechanical and Net Design Engineer, your role demands both technical expertise and a multidisciplinary mindset. You’ll need to understand market mechanisms and anticipate the potential commercial effects of the solutions you propose.

Responsibilities and tasks include

  • Assume roles in offshore aquaculture studies, tenders, and projects as a lead engineer specializing in mechanical and net design
  • Create conceptual and detail designs for fish nets, crowding arrangements, and other interfaces, and follow up in construction and operation
  • Assess and refine specifications for materials, drawings, and descriptions
  • Collaborate closely with the marine design department to ensure seamless integration between fish nets and marine structures
  • Act as a technical liaison, maintaining communication with vendors and suppliers

Qualifications

  • Proven mechanical designer with practical experience
  • 5 + years’ experience from mechanical design activities
  • Ability to understand and implement requirements stated in new standards
  • Preferably experience from Aquaculture
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent within engineering
