At Morrow Batteries, our mission is clear: to create the world’s most cost-effective and eco-friendly battery cells. Our vision? To drive the green energy revolution by producing sustainable batteries that power a cleaner future. We’re not just making products; we’re reshaping the entire sustainable battery industry. Our focus is on developing the next generation of battery cell technology. We are keen to promote our mission, passion, and values both to our team within, and to the world outside.

As we prepare to begin commercial production of our cutting-edge battery cells, we’re expanding our research and development team at our state-of-the-art Battery Research Centre in Southern Norway. We are seeking for a dynamic and experienced modelling engineer to join our modelling and machine learning group. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of electrochemistry and battery cell modelling, along with a track record of developing and deploying such models.

We can offer you an integral role in supporting our talented international R&D team. Your expertise in Li-ion battery development will be invaluable. Collaborating closely with our global customers and partners, you will confidently deliver presentations, tackle challenges head-on, and fuel your passion for shaping the future of battery technology.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Model Development : Create robust Li-ion battery cell models to support our researchers and customers in their development.

  • Develop ECM battery models for accurate electrochemical and thermal predictions, spanning from HPPC test characterization to performance prediction.
  • Validate and optimize models across a range of temperatures and C-rates using experimental data.
  • Fine-tune models to achieve close alignment with drive-cycle tests.
  • Collaborate with Software teams to define model functions for seamless integration.
  • Work with the Testing team to define model parameterization and validation processes.
  • Extend models to predict cell degradation and capacity loss.
  • Develop 3-D thermal models for Prismatic/Pouch/Cylindrical cell formats.
  • Identify cooling requirements based on specific applications.
  • Extend cell-level battery models (ECM) to basic module and pack predictions using MATLAB.
  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends, enhancing our model portfolio to align with the latest advancements in battery technology.
  • Work synergistically with other team members to identify novel modelling opportunities and explore hybrid approaches.
  • Expertise Sharing: Provide modelling expertise internally and engage in discussions with partners and customers externally.

Primary Requirements:

  • Education: Master's or PhD in Electrochemistry, battery technologies, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with ECM battery modelling.
  • High proficiency in any Python, MATLAB, or Simulink.
  • Strong understanding of battery chemistry and physics.
  • Modelling Experience: Proven track record in developing and optimizing battery models.
  • Analytical skills: Excel in analytical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Experience in battery testing data analysis with Python or other programming language is a plus.
  • Proactive and self-driven personality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Optional Requirements:

  • Good understanding and experience with physics-based models for batteries.
  • Experience with modelling multi-physics using Finite Volume Method (FVM) or Finite Element Method (FEM) on commercial tools.
  • Experience with battery parameterization testing is a plus but not essential.
  • Experience with machine learning tools is a plus.
