Norges Bank Investment Management is seeking a dedicated and results-oriented business and human rights expert for the position of Senior Investment Stewardship Manager in the Social team, which is part of the Active Ownership department. This department is responsible for furthering the long-term economic performance of our investments and reducing financial risks associated with the environmental, social and governance practices of the companies we invest in.

The Social team is one of five teams in the department. The team contributes to the fund’s value creation objective through policy development, analysis and engagement with portfolio companies on social topics – including on human rights, human capital management, anti-corruption, responsible tax and consumer interests

In this role, you will develop, support and conduct company engagements on social topics and contribute to NBIM’s broader stewardship efforts. The role offers the right person an opportunity to engage with company boards and senior management on social topics on behalf of a fund that owns on average 1.4% of all listed companies globally. You will be a key resource on business and human rights for the fund, providing expertise to internal portfolio managers and other stakeholders across Norges Bank Investment Management.

Alongside colleagues from the Active Ownership department, you will help develop the fund’s ownership positions and practices. Individuals with a business or investment experience and topical expertise within human rights and international humanitarian law are encouraged to apply.

The position is located in Oslo or London, and will report to the Head of the Social team. Some travel is required.


Duties and responsibilities

What you will do

  • Engage with company boards and management on human rights-related business risks and opportunities.
  • Provide expertise as an internal resource on human rights and international humanitarian law to stakeholders across NBIM.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses of companies’ risk exposure, management and performance when it comes to social topics.
  • Further develop NBIM’s policies and practices on ownership activities, including our expectations of companies and proxy voting activities.
  • Engage with standard setters, peer investors and other external stakeholders on responsible business conduct, business and human rights.
  • Contribute to external communication efforts on responsible investment and ESG integration in the investment processes and play a key role in a collaborative, dedicated and high-performing team.

Qualifications (heading)

What you need

  • Master’s degree in law, politics, economics or other relevant field with strong academic records would be highly advantageous
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience working with human rights and responsible business conduct, preferably connected to the financial services industry or the private sector.
  • Track record of successful experience from engaging with the private sector and leading multi-stakeholder initiatives
  • In-depth knowledge of international standards, reporting frameworks and ongoing regulatory developments on human rights and broader social topics
  • Good understanding of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues and their impact on investment and ownership decision making.
  • Experience working with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and other relevant standards
  • Knowledge of relevant networks, organisations and actors across business, academia and civil society.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages is an advantage.

Please note this is a full-time position, you will need to be able to work full time to be considered for this role.
