Zephyros Ocean is looking for talented Engineers onboard the vessel RV Northstar

Zephyros Ocean AS is a company focused on sustainable energy and floating wind solutions, with a holistic approach to the renewable energy transition.

Retired coastguard vessel, KV Senja, has been acquired by Zephyros Ocean and renamed RV Northstar. The ship will be repurposed as an ocean academy and action research vessel in support of this transition.

The Nordkapp-class vessel weighs 3200 tons and spans 105m. She comprises of four Wickmann 9AXAG 3600 Bhp engines and four MTU/MWM 616 V12 and 234 V12, two at 600 kW and two at 400 kW. She has a retractable 336 kW/63 kN Azimuth (Brunvoll) bow thruster, and Tacke 7000 hp – 1,9:1 gear. There are two separate shaft lines, each with: middle shaft fore (7,27m), middle shaft aft (8,80m), and propeller shaft (18,10m). Additional equipment and systems include: two pitch propellers each with four blades (3150mm diameter, 7200 hp at 250 rpm), stabilizing fins (Simplex contact, 22 tons at 15 kts), Double Becker rudder, two Norwinch anchor winches, Norwinch deck crane (SWL: 7,5 tones at 9m, 2,5 tons at 12m), and a 20-ton Norwinch towing winch.

We are seeking a 1st, 2nd, and Chief Engineer to comprise the vessel’s engineering department. The primary function of this group is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all the ship’s engines, auxiliary, and safety systems in compliance with applicable governing regulations.

General Responsibilities:

• Operation and maintenance of all engines and auxiliary systems
• Provide guidance to 2nd/3rd Engineers, Cadets, and Apprentices
• Serve as subject matter responsible and “Go-to” person for vessel crew

Qualifications:

• M1 or M2 certification
• Fit for duty certification (Sjømannsattest)
• IMO80 Training
• Assessor certificate (preferred, not required)
• Positive attitude and driven
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills
• Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
