Lifetime Prediction Specialist

Join us at Nel, where innovation meets opportunity! Our technology department is now hiring a talented and experienced Lifetime Prediction Specialist to join our team. You will play an important role in the development activities associated with lifetime prediction and material behavior. This position reports to the Technology Director at Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser and will be based on the company's premises in Porsgrunn/Herøya or Notodden.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop and validate predictive models and methodologies for estimating the lifetime and durability of materials and components, incorporating factors such as material properties, environmental conditions, mechanical loading, and degradation mechanisms.
  • Utilize advanced computational modeling techniques and accelerated testing methods, to simulate and predict the behavior of materials and components over time.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of experimental data and field performance data to identify trends, correlations, and failure modes, and develop empirical or physics-based models to predict product lifespan and reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with materials scientists, engineers, and product development teams to integrate predictive models into the design and optimization of materials and components, ensuring robustness, performance, and longevity.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to internal stakeholders, external partners, and customers, including participating in technical reviews, customer consultations, and product development discussions.
  • Keep track of emerging trends, advancements, and best practices in lifetime prediction methodologies, reliability engineering, and materials degradation mechanisms.
  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property, including patents, publications, and technical reports, to protect and showcase innovative predictive modeling technologies developed by the company.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or related field, with a focus on predictive modeling and materials degradation.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in predictive modeling, lifetime prediction, reliability analysis, or related areas, preferably in an industrial R&D setting.
  • Strong expertise in materials science, including material properties, degradation mechanisms, and failure modes of materials and components.
  • Computational modeling and simulation techniques, such as finite element analysis (FEA) and statistical analysis software.
  • Experience with accelerated testing methods, accelerated aging techniques, and accelerated life testing (ALT) to assess material and component reliability and durability.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful project management, technical leadership, and collaboration in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to identify and address technical challenges.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and staying current with industry advancements and best practices in predictive modeling and reliability engineering.
