We have recently been awarded new contracts and need to expand our engineering capacity to cover tender works and ongoing and future projects. We are therefore looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with several years of experience in the wind installation sector or other marine-related sectors.


The successful applicant will play an important role in representing Fred. Olsen externally and supporting our global offshore wind customers. By joining the FOWIC Engineering Department you will be working with a group of approx. 20 engineers dedicated to executing projects within the offshore wind industry. You will become part of a department with a good age and gender span and will be allowed to travel to our Installation Vessels globally, as well as travel to visit ports and Clients. The department works in a fast-paced environment with relatively compact project durations where you will have the opportunity to impact project decisions and see theory being put to life within a short time frame. You will also be working in a relatively young industry with great possibilities for personal development and learning.


Main work tasks will be:

  • Taking a leading role in geotechnical assessments specifically related to transport and installation of offshore wind turbines and related infrastructure. This may include operation of installation vessels (jack-ups), foundation installation techniques (pile driving and/or drilling), and scour protection measures
  • Discipline responsibility for geotechnical area within FOWIC engineering team. This involves keeping compliance of industry standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as overseeing software and data management for seabed soil information at ports and offshore sites with particular importance on GIS
  • Developing and refining operational procedures to ensure safe and efficient project execution in compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Overseeing the quality assurance of engineering documentation, ensuring adherence to established engineering process and standards. This includes development and maintenance of templates and checklists
  • Establish technical speci?cation to support procurement processes
  • Follow-up of subcontractor work, with particular focus on works related to Leg Penetration Assessments (LPAs) and Site-Specific Assessments (SSAs), and other works related to geotechnical assessments
  • Participate in, or lead installation / asset concept development studies
  • Collaborating with vessel technical department during the planning and execution of projects for existing and new assets
  • Providing support to the operations department with vessel operations and procedural requirements.


In addition to the main area of responsibility, you may be asked to take the following responsibilities:

  • Engineering works related to tenders and project planning for wind turbines and foundations installation. This may include; concept development, project planning, method statements, deck layouts, geotechnical assessments, vessel positioning plans, scheduling and weather downtime analyses etc.
  • Be assigned as project engineering manager, and/or act as deputy to project managers or line manager as required.


Qualifications we look for:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher university degree in engineering with focus on geotechnical
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, preferably in the offshore wind industry or equivalent offshore industry, with expertise in interpreting geotechnical and geophysical data
  • Experience with offshore wind turbine and foundation installation, and scour protection measures
  • Experience with software tools relevant for geotechnical assessments and geophysical mapping of offshore sites, and an interest in the development of such software tools and data management, i.e. AutoCad, GIS, Geocap and/or other relevant software for performing geotechnical assessments
