Good reasons to work at Gjensidige

Did you know that our professional environment consists of over 300 committed colleagues who work with the very latest technology? Among other things, we work with digitization of products and services, design, Robotics & AI, integration and process automation, and business development. We both develop new solutions and work to improve the ones we already have. In addition, we aim to have the most engaged technology employees in the industry!

No matter what you work on at Gjensidige, you will both work in interesting teams and achieve your ambitions. The tasks are varied, often long-term and not least socially important. The best thing we have is the community, and who you are is important to us. With us, everyone gets equal space, and our diversity enriches both ourselves and our customers.

Your everyday life as Database Engineer

As a Database Engineer, you will be part of the Cloud Platform & Infrastructure team, which currently consists of 11 professionals with expertise in automation, application development, platform, infrastructure and security. The team's task is primarily to facilitate other development teams so that they can robustly, efficiently and securely deliver value continuously to their end users. At Gjensidige, we have everything from analysis teams consisting of Data Scientists who utilize Big Data and machine learning to autonomous product teams who constantly develop new microservices. The needs you will help to support are many and varied.

One of Gjensidige's biggest investment areas is Azure Public Cloud. We take advantage of the opportunities a modern cloud architecture gives us, and allow ourselves to be inspired by the best in the industry so that the needs of the future are secured by a platform that is state of the art. A central part of this work is to practice "You build it, you run it" in Gjensidige - we believe this culture is absolutely necessary for the teams to get the best possible benefit from the tools we offer.

Together with our architects in CCoE, SecOps and the development teams, you will be helping to advise, design, implement and modernize the way forward in this area.

You will work with designing, implementing and managing database solutions such as MSSQL and PostgresSQL. This is of course done using Infrastructure-as-code.

Gjensidige has a mixture of databases delivered as PaaS services, but also running in VMs in Azure and on-premise. This means that you will also work on modernizing and migrating the databases to new services.

As our Database Engineer, you also assist our development teams with everything from performance tuning and optimization of queries to masking of sensitive data.

We imagine you are interested in platforms and want to learn more.

You are passionate about interacting with our developers to build robust cloud database solutions that scale and have stable availability, facilitating a high degree of automation and frequent production setups.

About you as an applicant

One of the most important qualities we look for is that you care about the people around you. We are looking for you to help your colleagues, not because you have to, but because you want to.

Otherwise, we are looking for the following qualifications / skills:

  • We are looking for both of you who have 2 to 5 year of experience in database administration, especially in the cloud.

  • Adhering to best practices in securely storing, backing up, and archiving data.
  • Documenting processes related to database design, configuration, and performance.
  • Keeping abreast of developments and best practices in database engineering.

We believe in continuous learning and that nobody knows everything we need from day 1, so don't hesitate to apply even if you don't know everything on the list. Motivation to learn and interest in the topics are so important to us.
