Postdoc in breast cancer biomarkers and spatial molecular biology

A 2-year postdoc position with the possibility for 1-year extension is available in the newly started project named BC-SINFONIA within the Haugen project group at the Dept. of Tumor Biology, Institute of Cancer Research at Oslo University Hospital.

In the BC-SINFONIA project we will analyze tumor tissues from breast cancer patients enrolled in two clinical trials at Oslo University Hospital investigating use of i) chemotherapy carboplatin (the IBCT-trial) and ii) experimental letrozole Akt-inhibitor (the NAPEER-trial). We build on experience in protein analysis from bulk tumor tissue, but here we advance into the spatial dimension by use of new emerging technologies. Our focus is prediction of response and resistance to treatment, identification of alternative treatment options, and therapy-induced immune cell changes.

The candidate will have duties with emphasis on the computational and analytical efforts in the project, but also be included in strategic planning and have the option of responsibility for one of the work-packages. Our ambition is for the candidate to develop scientific independence in this position. The project is part of a wider initiative in Haugen’s project group converging on molecular precision oncology, and the candidate will be collaborating with the other team members on this goal.

The position is within the project group of Dr. Mads Haugland Haugen (www.ous-research.no/haugen), which is part of the Gunhild Mælandsmo lab at the Dept. of Tumor Biology, Institute of Cancer Research at Oslo University Hospital. Project co-PI in the BC-SINFONIA project is Ass. Prof./Senior Consultant Oncologist Olav Engebråten, leading the involved clinical trials.

Qualifications:

• PhD within a relevant field.
  
• Experience with biostatistics, computational research, programming language (e.g. R, Python etc).
  
• Knowledge in spatial analysis, oncology, biomedical research or translational medicine is an advantage.
