POSITION OVERVIEW:

Weather forecasts are part of our key deliveries in the Power product. Our clients want the fastest and most accurate modeling and forecasting of renewables. The Lead Weather and Renewables Specialist – Energy Product holds responsibility for the end-to-end management of defined products and/or services within a technical area of expertise, ensuring alignment with LSEGs product strategy. Leading all aspects of definition and planning through production, release, and end of lifecycle, with end-to-end responsibility on feature/function specifications for new or legacy propositions, products and services.

We are looking for an experienced quantitative meteorologist to drive this further in a world of AI weather forecasting. The successful candidate will have strong analytical and quantitative skills, high attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and be self-motivated, inquisitive, resourceful, and independent.


MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver against set objectives for a medium product or cluster of medium products with a considerable level of expertise and specialization in the relevant product lines
  • Understand overall product roadmap and strategy, tracking strategic KPIs, drawing insights and conclusions from data to input into roadmap decisions
  • Develop and improve quantitative models, including data handling and data processing - including modeling and forecasting renewables using existing and new weather forecasts
  • Write analysis and reports to support traders and market participants
  • Manage own work proactively and other’s accordingly and as directed by senior colleagues to meet overall objectives, providing coaching and development for more junior colleagues
  • Contribute to product marketing to ensure content is appropriately provided
  • Seek the expansion / improvement of existing products within own remit rather than the conceptualization of new products, establishing the business case for product enhancements
  • Ensure client engagement, communicates roadmaps to the client community and is responsible for feedback
  • Provide guidance on strategy, design, business requirements, feature and functionality trade-offs and release schedule for a proposition, set of propositions, products, or services
  • Lead cross-functional teams in order to ensure dependencies for proposition, product or service delivery are met, following relevant lean, agile and ways of working methodologies
  • Work closely with client teams to gather and prioritize client feedback to drive innovation and increase client adoption and retention.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Higher education (MSc or PhD level) in meteorology, atmospheric physics, industrial mathematics, computer science / artificial intelligence, economics, engineering, or equivalent.
  • Good proficiency in data analysis and predictive modelling, particularly in the fields of meteorology and weather forecasting.
  • Strong knowledge in computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R) for processing weather data and model development.
  • Good understanding of climate models and developments in the field. 
  • Solid background in statistics and machine learning techniques, especially applied to meteorological data.
  • Familiarity with power system modelling and understanding the impact of weather on energy dynamics.
  • Capability to integrate weather data into power system models. 
  • Effective data visualization skills for timeseries and geospatial data. 
  • Good communication skills for effective interdisciplinary collaboration.
