Dalen Hotel located in the heart of Telemark is a historic fairytale hotel from 1894 built in the Norwegian dragon style. With 49 rooms, a majestic hall, historic lounges and a fine dining restaurant in original condition and a big, beautiful garden. Dalen Hotel is one of Norway's most iconic hotels and have won many awards throughout the years.
About the position
As our new Housekeeping Manager, you will have a key position in the management team of the hotel. You will work very closely with the Front of House Manager, F&B Manager, and Executive Head Chef and report directly to the General Manager. The position is seasonal from April 1st until October 15th.
You will be responsible for a dedicated team of approximately 6-8 persons. With your department you are responsible for the cleanliness and general order of the hotels common areas and guest rooms. With 49 unique rooms and suits in different size and shape, attention to detail, strict routines, structure and training is needed to ensure exceptional guest experiences. In addition to keeping the hotel clean our housekeeping department does turn down service in all rooms every evening, making the beds, offer a little treat and setting the room in order for a good night’s sleep.
Other responsibilities will include:
- Training and routines
- Managing and motivating your team
- Daily operations in housekeeping
- Scheduling in accordance to budget and forecast
- Making orders and overseeing inventory of amenities and linen
There is also the possibility of taking on additional administrative tasks as an Administrative Assistant if it is of interest. This may include responsibilities such as payroll processing, monitoring time registration for the house, managing contracts, etc. This presents a valuable opportunity to gain further competence and experience.
Who are you?
In the role of Housekeeping Manager, it is crucial to demonstrate strong organizational skills and independence. Working with a small team underscores the importance of fostering open and effective communication, both with the front of the house and within your own team. The ability to maintain structure and responsibility is essential, complemented by strong leadership skills and a hands-on approach.
You should feel comfortable with and value flexible working hours and diverse tasks, and thrive in a high-paced environment. To effectively lead your team, possessing excellent communication skills is crucial. While most communication in the hotel occurs in English, knowledge of Norwegian is certainly a plus.

Inspired by stave churches and the Viking Age, Dalen Hotel made its debut to the world in that year, responding to the demand for a luxury hotel after the completion of the Telemark Canal in 1892. The hotel gained fame throughout Europe, attracting the English aristocracy and other prominent guests from around the world.
This distinctive hotel comprises 49 historic rooms, a majestic hall, several historic lounges, a terrace, and an exceptional garden. The gourmet restaurant, Restaurant Bandak, holds a special place in history and is described as one of the hotel's main attractions. Reflecting the hotel's history and originality, the menu compositions at Restaurant Bandak are heavily influenced by French cuisine and remain a highlight for our guests to this day.
The hotel operates seasonally from April to October, with the peak season during the summer months.
