Hydropower is being developed in conjunction with our ambitious renewable energy and low-carbon goals. To strengthen our footprint in hydropower, we recently acquired Rainpower, a leading player within the Hydropower industry renowned for quality products such as Kvaerner Turbines and Hymatek Controls. Close to 200 Hydropower employees have joined the Aker Solutions family already and we are looking for more employees to grow our product range and secure the solid implementation of our projects. We are now looking for a Mechanical Engineer Trainee who wants to join our team. Our Hydropower Turbines and Mechanical group is responsible for performing the hydraulic and mechanical engineering on our Turbines, Inlet Valves, and MBoP (Mechanical Balance of Plant).
What will you be doing?
Our trainee program gives you the opportunity to work alongside our best and brightest engineers to develop your technical and professional skills to kick-start your career. You will explore three different work rotations and participate in various professional development initiatives to learn new skills and develop yourself personally and professionally. Through the 18-month trainee period you will participate in a rotational program through three different hydropower departments. Following the trainee program, you are guaranteed a permanent position in one of our hydropower engineering departments. The trainee period will follow the program below, which may be adjusted depending on the specific candidate:
- Hydropower laboratory, Trondheim: The turbine laboratory is an R&D and model test hub for our Kværner turbines. As a trainee you will develop your insight into hydropower systems, and likely be involved in the execution of a specific turbine model test.
- Hydropower Turbines and Mechanical, Bryn: The department consists of engineers delivering into customer and R&D projects involving turbine, valves and mechanical systems. As a trainee you will be trained and work on customer project with mechanical deliveries.
- Hydropower Controls, Bryn: The last rotation will either be in the Turbines and Mechanical department or our Controls department depending on the trainee’s profile. As a trainee you will be trained and work on project deliveries and analysis to some of our electro-mechanical projects.
In one or more of the projects you get involved in you are expected to follow the project at site during installation and/or commissioning.
We think you should have:
We are looking for Graduates 2024 with less than one year work experience. Your profile:
- Higher education (Msc/PhD) within mechanical engineering or related education
- Technical acumen with proven analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-driven personality with the capability of quickly acquiring new skills
- Interest and knowledge within hydropower or renewable energy systems
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Norwegian
- You are flexible in terms of both tasks and mobility as the program involves working within multiple fields of engineering and locations.
